We saw the image of the Nexus 7 tablet leak out a bit ahead of the keynote. And well, as we had been waiting for, Google has officially announced the tablet. The name, as we expected — is the Nexus 7. The tablet is made by Asus and brings the following features;

  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
  • 7-inch (1280 x 800) IPS display with Corning Gorilla Glass
  • Quad-core Tegra 3 processor
  • 12-core GPU
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 8GB or 16GB of internal storage
  • 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera
  • GPS
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
  • Bluetooth
  • microUSB
  • NFC
  • 4325 mAh battery (up to 8 hours of use time)
  • Measurements: 7.8 x 4.7 x 0.41 inches
  • Weight: 12 ounces

The tablet will be priced at $199 (8GB) and $249 (16GB) and for an unspecified limited time, those who make the purchase will get a $25 credit to use in the Google Play store. The Nexus 7 will be available for those in the US, Canada, UK and Australia with more countries to follow. Finally, while the Nexus 7 tablet is available for pre-order as of today, it will not begin shipping until mid-July.
