Facebook recently changed all of its users email addresses to a Facebook.com email address. That means anytime someone sends an email to a Facebook.com address, it will show up in an individual’s messages folder on Facebook’s site. Unfortunately, this change has had a very negative effect on mobile devices that sync contacts through Facebook.

Various news outlets are reporting Facebook has overwritten every email address from contacts that were synced through Facebook. For example, if you had a Gmail address on your Facebook profile, everyone that obtained that email address through Facebook can only email you through a default Facebook.com address.

As if altering email addresses on mobile devices wasn’t bad enough, it turns out some emails aren’t being routed to Facebook at all. They’re just disappearing without a trace.

Our advice is to go into the settings of any device or service that syncs to Facebook and remove contact syncing as soon as possible.
