The Google Places app on the iPhone as recently been updated. The update is available in the expected location, the iOS App Store, however it does have a new name and app icon which may look a slight bit confusing at first glance. The new icon can be seen here in the post and the name is now Google+ Local. The app has gone up to version 1.4 and brings a few new features including Zagat and voice search. The change log reads as follows;

  • With Google+ Local you can see reviews from your friends, decide where to go with Zagat’s summaries of places and review your favorite places.
  • Ability to search via Voice Search. Simply tap the microphone and speak your query.
  • Improved UI for searching for places that aren’t nearby.
  • Switched to using OAuth2 login for improved security.

Otherwise, Google+ Local remains available for the iPhone and iPod touch and requires iOS 3.0 or later for use.
