Although it is the only nationwide major carrier to offer a real unlimited plan for smartphones, it will not be extending that courtesy for all of its data devices any longer. Starting in November, Sprint will no longer offer unlimited data plans for mobile broadband devices or wireless hotspots created by its smartphones.

Lets start with mobile hotspots. Instead of getting unlimited data, Sprint customers that use this feature will only get 5GB of 3G and 4G data every billing cycle. If you exceed 5GB, you’ll have to pay $.05 for every additional megabyte you use on the network. If you’re off Sprint’s network, you will only be able to use 300MB of data.

The mobile broadband changes vary depending on whether your current plan includes 3GB, 5GB or 10GB of 3G data with unlimited 4G data. Essentially, the unlimited 4G data is being stripped out and combined with the amount of 3G data you have. As with the mobile hotspot overage fee, you’ll be charged $.05 for every extra megabyte used on the network. Off-network overage fees will be $0.25 per megabyte after exceeding either 100MB of data (for 3GB plans) or 300MB of data (5GB and 10GB plans).

Via [<a

If you’ve been a long-time Sprint customer, you’re probably aware that Sprint pioneered push-to-talk service in the US. Hence, it is but fitting for Sprint to relaunch this service taking stock of new and faster network technology. Additionally, Sprint Direct Connect will be rolled out together with broadband data capabilities, the usual push-to-talk features, and a new rugged phone, the Kyocera DuraMax.

Sprint Direct Connect will be powered by Sprint’s 3G data network that will enable the carrier to deliver enhanced push-to-talk platform that will provide Sprint customers with instant calling features, more reliable push-to-talk features as well as full support for data applications. Sprint’s push-to-talk platform was designed with Qualcomm which provided Sprint with IP-based solution that can deliver advanced push-to-talk experiences, according to Sprint.

In case you’re interested to avail of Sprint Direct Connect service, expect to enjoy the following features:

Direct Connect

Guaranteed Talk Permit

Call Alert with Text

Group Connect

TeamDCSM

NextMail

Availability Notifications

And as mentioned, Sprint Direct Connect will come together with the new Kyocera Duramax. This handset features a 2-inch QVGA TFT main display, 3.2MP camera with flash and camcorder, and a non-slip Dura-Grip design. The handset passed the Military Standard 810G for dust, shock, vibration, extreme temperatures, blowing rain, and water immersion testing. The Kyocera Duramax is scheduled for release on October 2nd with another two compatible devices before the year ends.

Via [<a

The said tablet was spotted to have graced the FCC recently. And if history serves us right, most devices that pass through the FCC either get dumped or released in a matter of weeks. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7′s FCC fillings indicate a 16GB Wi-Fi only version since there were no traces of wireless bands available. The device has the code – GT-P6810. Aside from these, nothing much is known about this Samsung tablet. In the meantime, feast your eyes on the diagram of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 and use your imagination on how the tablet will look like when it comes out.

Via [<a

According to the details which were posted along with the (below) video, this build is based on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread and the “everything you see, except for bootie the bootloader (a great kid’s show btw), was compiled from source.”

Otherwise, at present they are not offering anything in terms of when we can expect this to be released for any and all to play with. More to the point, it seems there is still an issue with the touchscreen drivers which are said to now be the main focus of their attention. And looking forward, while some seem to want to replace webOS with Android entirely, it looks the the folks at CyanogenMod are looking to create a multiboot system.

“Our ultimate vision is to create a *multiboot* solution where the end user will be able to boot into WebOS, Cyanogenmod, and/or other OSes. This appears to be very possible, and we have discussed several potential implementations with our new friends in the WebOS development community to make it easy for an end-user to set up.”

That all being said, they are also looking for a few HP TouchPads that they can put to use by the team. In other words, if you have a TouchPad that you do not mind giving up for the cause, you may want to reach out, possibly using the RootzWiki link below.

Via [<a

Well, we won’t be waiting much longer for devices, at least. AT&T has announced that it’s first LTE devices will hit stores later this month on August 21.

Like Verizon, AT&T’s first LTE devices will be a USB dongle and a mobile hotspot. The USB dongle is called the USBConnect Momentum 4G, while the hotspot will go under the moniker of Mobile Hotspot Elevate 4G. Both devices will be able to use both LTE and HSPA+, just in case you’re not in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio (the five announce markets AT&T will be rolling LTE out to). As for pricing, AT&T will charge you $50 a month for 5GB worth of data. Seems fairly typical of AT&T’s policy of charging a lot of money for data. After that 5GB you have to pay $10 per each additional GB.

If you already have a USBConnect Adrenaline from AT&T you don’t need to worry about getting lost in the shuffle with the LTE upgrade. On August 26 you’ll be able to get your adapter upgraded to use both HSPA+ and LTE. The new devices should be available everywhere that AT&T has some sort of “4G” coverage, so you can future proof your connection for LTE while still enjoying the slightly upgraded speeds of the HSPA+ network.

Read [<a

The CLEAR Spot 4G Apollo is a new personal hotspot offering super-fast speeds, unlimited 4G plans, and compatibility with your Wi-Fi enabled laptops, netbooks, smartphones, tablets and other supported devices. It can simultaneously connect up to eight Wi-Fi devices at 4G speeds of up to 3 to 6 mbps download speeds bursting up to 10 mbps. What’s good about CLEAR is that data usage is unlimited and not capped unlike what others are offering. It also does not require long-term service contracts. Unlimited 4G coverage from CLEAR usually starts from $35/mo. for home usage or $45/mo for mobile usage. You can also have these bundled together under Home and On-the-Go plans or Home and Voice plans for $55/mo.

Via [<a

In terms of getting the deal, you will need to shop on June 18th (this coming Sunday). Aside from having to shop on the 18th, you can get either free data or a $10 per month credit depending on the route you choose. The free data offer will come by way of a customer signing up on a calling plan with the 200MB per month data option as well as a calling plan with the unlimited data option or a mobile broadband plan. Of course, depending on the plan you choose, the data will not be entirely free. You see, the free data comes in the form of a $10 per month monthly credit which will be given for 12 months (to total $120). In other words, if you sign up for the 200MB data plan you will get free data for a year, otherwise, those signing up for an unlimited data plan or a mobile broadband plan will simply get a $10 discount each month for a year. Either way, its still a $120 savings over the course of a year and that is not a bad thing. And lastly, this promotion is available for both new and current customers.

Via [<a

The information suggests the data plan will cover both 4G and 3G data and reads as follows;

“4G Data Share Plans: SNAP enables activation of 4G and 4G/3G combined bucket data share plans. This enhancement allows accounts with multiple subscribers to share data usage across subscribers with common Share IDs.

As a result of this change, a data share plan could have separate 4G, 3G or 4G/3G buckets. In addition, rate plans can have a voice pooling ID with voice minutes and a data share ID with data allowances. SNAP will not show pooling options for team members to help guests setup polling share options for guests.”

That being said, while we like the idea of shared data plans though we still need a bit more information before we get excited — namely we need to know what the pricing will be and how much data will be included. And something of worry, at present Sprint offers a nice unlimited data package, will that go away with the introduction of shared data?

Via [<a
