The Lensbaby Spark is pretty much totally fun to play around with if you are into mid to advanced level photography. The Lensbaby Spark is a DSLR lens that focuses in the center, but then blurs at the edges to create an artistic effect. At $80 I was interested in seeing what the Spark could do.

I used it on my Nikon D7000, but it’s also available for Canon cameras. It is simple to use, just replace your normal lens with the Lensbaby Spark, squeeze to focus and tilt to change where focused part of the image is. My favorite and probably best shot is of a vintage FJ and shows how the Spark easily makes a simple photo into art at the push of a button.

Modern devices are complex enough. Accessories can be just as vast and intricate but do they always have to be? Personally, I find it refreshing to find smart device add-ons that work well in an innovative and practical fashion, require no instructions manual and truly help make for an improved experience with whatever they’re supplementing.

Here, I present some smart accessories that work, no-frills, no bells, no whistles. Call it a product round-up, if you will, perhaps the first in a series.

A nice fit in any pair of pants — at 17mm thin — store some cash, two credit cards and your house key inside the case. Talk about simplifying your life, these Aussies got a sweet thing going. Unfortunately, I’m not an iPhone guy but if I was, you know iLid would be in my pocket while I’m perched the bar with some chums.

Eye-Fi 16GB Pro X2 SD card now available, arrives with a price cut for the 8GB model

The folks at Eye-Fi have officially released their latest wireless SD card, the Pro X2 16GB. The card arrives priced at $99.99 and is currently available for pre-order. It is expected to begin shipping sometime in the “coming weeks.” Those interested will be able to find the card direct with Eye-Fi as well as with third-party retailers such as Amazon. The Pro X2 16GB wireless card arrives with Class 10 performance and features to include the ability to upload images anywhere you have an available wireless connection, the ability to transfer RAW files, share images in real-time, automatically geotag images and the option to shoot forever courtesy of the endless memory mode. Otherwise, in addition to the release of the 16GB Pro X2 SD card, Eye-Fi has also dropped the price of the 8GB card, which is now $79.99. Of course, for an additional $20, we suspect most would opt for the 16GB card.

The Lowepro Event Messenger 250 is priced at $79.99 and at the moment, available only in the color you see in the images in this post. Fortunately, the color is generic enough that it should work for most people. That thought aside though, the Event Messenger 250 camera bag weighs in at 1.8 pounds (empty) and measures 15.3 (W) x 7.4 (D) x 11.7 (H) inches on the outside.
