The new netbooks are the HP Mini 110 and Mini 210. Both netbooks come with the a 10.1-inch screen, 1GB of RAM, and a 320GB HDD. The Mini 110 packs the 1.6GHz Intel Atom N2600 CPU, and costs €279. The Mini 210 has the 1.83GHz Atom N2800 and comes with Beats audio for a price of about €309.

There’s no word on if these new netbooks will make their way to the United States. Honestly, I’m surprised that HP still sells enough netbooks to justify making new ones. It seems like the tablet market had taken away any allure the netbook market had. But maybe there are still some people out there that want small laptops that can do most things a laptop can.

Read [<a

Yes, you read it right. It’s not very often that we hear AT&T selling this kind of wares, especially since netbooks might seem a little less popular today, thanks to the newer – ultrabooks. But hey, you might be in need of an affordable portable computing machine, so the Aspire One AO722 is a very good option. To make it more attractive, AT&T enabled the netbook to connect to its HSPA+ network. If that’s not an incentive enough to convince you in getting this netbook, perhaps its features will change your mind. The Aspire One AO722 netbook features a 1GHz AMD C-50 processors, Radeon HD 6250 graphics, full-size keyboard and 6-cell battery. Other features include – 3 USB ports, VGA webcam, 320GB HDD and 2GB of RAM. This netbook can be had from AT&T if you’re willing to spend $450 or have it with a two-year, 3GB-per-month data plan which should cost you $40.

Read [<a

Leaking out ahead of the upcoming CES 2012 are press shots of Asus latest netbook line – now called the Eee PC Flare Series. Even more exciting perhaps is the fact that the Eee PC Flare will be available in two versions, each of them sporting a different form factor. These Eee PC Flare are the Eee PC 1225 and Eee PC 1025. Obviously, one will sport a 12-inch display while the other 10-inch. The Eee PC 1225 will be available with AMD Fusion processor and Cedar Trail. Details are still scarce for now. But we do know that the Eee PC Flare netbooks will feature the familiar chicklet style keyboard along with some discreet hinges and with the Asus logo situated on the bottom of the screen. The netbooks might also be available in various funky colors. Stay tuned with us as we bring more about these new netbook babies from Asus as we give you more coverage from CES 2012.

Via [<a

How about putting Windows 8 Developer Preview on it? That’s what one hacker did, and it seems to work out fairly well.

Windows 8 will boot on the Cr-48 in just twelve seconds, but it takes a bit longer to get the OS onto the machine. The process involves putting the device into developer mode and flashing a new BIOS onto it. From there you can install Windows 8 from a USB drive as you would normally. There’s also some software to be installed to get multitouch working on the trackpad and the 3G modem to work. Once you do all that, you have a fully functioning Windows 8 netbook. Thankfully, Windows 8 was designed to be able to run on the poor specs of machines like the Cr-48.

Keep in mind, however, that the Developer Preview isn’t intended to be used for everyday use, and it does lack apps. There’s no native email or calendar apps built in, and not everything will support the OS. But, if you’re willing to try it out, it might be a good use for that free Chromebook you have lying around. You could always install Windows 8 on any other netbook, but they wouldn’t look nearly as nice as the Cr-48 does.

<iframe

Windows 8 is a dramatic change from what we’re used to seeing with the operating system. Microsoft is taking advantage of the soaring popularity of mobile and web applications and touch interfaces in Windows 8. You may be wondering what kind of hardware you will need in order to run Windows 8. While Steven Sinofsky, the president of Microsoft’s Windows division, didn’t come out and say every somewhat modern PC can run Windows 8, he did give that impression.

Sinofsky pulled out a three-year-old Lenovo netbook and revealed that it was running on Windows 8. The netbook was described as one of the first generation netbooks that Lenovo released. It only had 1GB of RAM and was running on an old Atom CPU. Even with those low specifications, Windows 8 was shown to be consuming only 281MB of memory.

Chances are the Windows 8 experience won’t be identical on an old netbook compared to a high-powered desktop, but the small resources needed to run Windows 8 is comforting.

Sinofsky also said everything on Windows 7 will run on Windows 8. Even if you have a Windows 7 netbook, you may not have to get new hardware to enjoy Windows 8.

Via [<a

Although there’s no definite date of delivery indicated, it may still be wise to place your order now if you’ve been eyeing this new netbook. Amazon has its price pegged at $226.99 which is pretty cheap by current standards. Why is this possible? That’s because the Eee PC X101 doesn’t come with the usual flavor of Windows for its OS. Instead, you’ll get the netbook running MeeGo, a Linux-based OS made specifically to run on netbooks, smartphones and some tablets. Aside from the OS, you’ll also get the netbook loaded with a single-core 1.33GHz Atom N435 processor. Not really among the most impressive netbook CPUs but that’s what you get for the price you’ll have to pay for this netbook. Interested? you can also get the Eee PC X101 from CDW for $210 or from Excalibur for $199.

Via [<a

Today Big Red announces it’s first ever 4G LTE netbook for those who want to spend a bit less and get a smaller, less powerful computer.

Verizon’s first 4G LTE netbook is the Compaq Mini CQ10-688nr. It’s a 10.1-inch netbook with a 1.66 GHz N455 Atom CPU, 1GB of RAM and 350GB of storage space. As far as modern netbooks go, its a pretty standard affair. The big difference, of course, is the built in 4G LTE radio that let’s you connect to Verizon’s network. For that privilege you can either pay $30, $50, or $80 a month for 2GB, 5GB, or 10GB of data, respectively. It’s pretty expensive, but at least you get download speeds of 5 to 12 Mbps in 4G areas, right?

The Compaq Mini CQ10-688nr will cost you $499.99 when it’s on sale starting August 4. That’s the price with a two-year contract, which is a bit much considering you can get a similar netbook for less, or an iPad 2 fort he same price. Then all you need is a mobile hotspot to connect to the 4G network, which can be used for many more devices. Or you can just stick with a netbook on a two-year contract that’ll seem unbearably slow much before the contract runs out.

Via [<a

In many cases, one case of butter fingers can result in a screen that is cracked beyond repair. If you don’t have insurance on the device, you may have to eat the entire cost to replace it. There’s also the risk of theft with these fancy devices. Sprint now has a protection plan that covers smartphones, netbooks, notebook computers and tablets. It’s called the Assurant Advanced Protection Pack.

This plan will cost you $13 a month and it comes with a $100 deductible. In addition to taking the sting out of paying the full price for a replacement device, the protection pack also provides a number of additional services. These services included credit monitoring up to three months after a device goes missing, data back-up, anti-virus protection and tech support.

Interested customers can purchase the protection pack when they purchase a Sprint device with a data plan. Existing customers can purchase the service within 30 days of purchasing a device.

When you think about it, a $13 monthly fee is work the risk. Unless you like living on the wild side, this is something to consider.

Via [<a

Originally built to compete with the successful Apple stores, Microsoft is more than doubling down, the company is committing to putting boots all over the US, but focused primarily on the Northeast, Florida, California and Texas. The company has not disclosed plans to build stores outside the US.

The news came from COO Kevin Turner during Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner Conference. Turner’s agenda was to fire up Microsofts key partners and get them excited about the new things Microsoft is doing to keep relevant. Honing in Apple’s success in retail looks to be one of those items.

Turner explained to the crowd that by listening to the folks who visit their retail locations, the company will be able to capitalize on meeting consumer needs.

Microsoft refused to provide further details.

Read: [<a

Some of you may have raised your eyebrows (including myself) thinking what came into the minds of the Acer folks to brag about an upcoming product who as we all know by then are about to become extinct. But then, Acer did not mind the signs of the time and in fact just introduced the Acer Aspire One Happy 2 netbooks.

And yes, those new Aspire One netbooks are indeed wearing their candy-colored bezels. Acer is even proud to announce the names of these candy-colored netbooks. So take a pick from either the “Banana Cream,” “Blueberry Shake,” “Papaya Milk,” and “Strawberry Yogurt.” If those nicknames don’t sound yummy, well perhaps the specs of these new netbooks would. These specs and features include – dual-core Atom N570 processor, 10.1-inch display, 250GB HDD, Wi-Fi, 1GB of RAM, and the usual stuff that you will normally find in a netbook of this caliber.

As for the price, well that’s possibly the only good news about these netbooks. The Acer Aspire One Happy 2 will be available for $269.99. What? You’re interested to get one, well you can grab one now from leading electronics stores the U.S.

Via [<a
