Other than iPad 2 rumors, the other big rumor surrounding Apple involves the next generation iPhone. Since the iPhone 4 is currently available on two carriers, more people than usual will be interested in the iPhone 5 (or whatever the name may be), and if Apple can deliver another stellar product, they will likely make more money from exposure to more customers. According to the San Franciscoā€™s Moscone Center online corporate calendar, there seems to be a “Corporate Meeting” scheduled for June 5-9 2011 when Apple’s WWDC is likely to take place and Apple will probably take this time to announce the new iPhone as it did last year. Of course, this information hasn’t been confirmed by Apple, but traditionally June is when the iPhone refresh occurs and Apple announced the product during the same time frame last year in the same location.

At WWDC on June 7, it’s safe to say Apple will be announcing a new iPhone possibly in the flavor of the iPhone 4G. Instead of giving the whole day to Apple, AT&T might actually announce some new Android phones on June 7, which could steal some thunder from mighty Steve Jobs. Apparently, one prospective phone is the HTC Aria which is a slimmed down Android phone, but it still has some core features such as 2.8 inch touch screen, Android 2.1 OS, 5MP camera, and the HTC Sense UI.

As of now, there are only a few spy shots circulating the web of the HTC Aria, nothing official in terms of a price or specific launch date. However, rumor has it that the HTC Aria will be announced on June 7 by AT&T. In addition, AT&T could announce the Samsung i897 (Captivate) and the Dell Streak. June 7 should be a pretty good day for AT&T fans because at the worst, they will receive the opportunity to purchase the latest iPhone, and at the best, they will have some more Android phones to choose from.

Yes, the iPhone will be open (closed) to 3rd party applications through the Safari web browser. You can run things like Salesforce.com or Gmail. Great applications that don’t reside locally. You really don’t want to muck up your local files with God-knows-what, do you?

This isn’t really the selling point I was hoping to learn about today. Though we did get a time on the 29th: 6pm.

While we all sit around anxiously awaiting the news that will come from today’s WWDC it seems we have time for just a little more speculation on what Steve Jobs will be discussing today. DailyTechTalk.com has posted what they are believing to be bullet points for todays Keynote.

In a last minute find, I happened across a German site that has an outline of tomorrow’s play by play of Steve Jobs’ WWDC keynote. The text has some issues when I performed the translation but I’ve copied it in the “Full Story” section and made some changes to make it easier to read. Of course, you can always translate it yourself…

Just to hit a few of the hot topics from “today’s keynote”.

• New Generation for the iMac’s with a new design that would be more appealing to the iPhone.
• Lot of new items for Leopard. ZFS File System, Front Row 2.0, Photobooth 2.0, New Spotlight, Mail, iCal to name a few.
• Out with the brushed metal design and in with black shining Elemen.
• .mac & Google, iLife & iWork ’07
• More iPhone details.

It seems pretty accurate to me, of course I am not sure if it sounds right because I would like it to go like that or I actually think it will go like that, only time will tell.

If youā€™re planning on getting an iMac anytime soon, you might want to wait a bit to avoid what happened to me. There are rumors that a re-designed iMac might soon surface, implementing the Santa Rosa chipset, with sizes ranging from 20ā€¯ (the 17″ version will be cut off) to ones larger than 24ā€¯, with a brushed metal exterior case to boot.

The new iMacs are said to be similarly priced to the current lineup and will be revealed after Appleā€™s World Wide Developers Conference. Of course these are just rumors at this moment, and if you can wait until after WWDC to see if these are indeed true, then Iā€™d suggest some patience.

The five-day event, scheduled to run from June 11 to June 15, will deliver more than 150 sessions and labs aimed at getting the most out of Leopard. The conference will also include new content to serve a wide range of developers, including Mac OS X Immersion Monday, designed to quickly get developers who are new to the MacĀ® up to speed; a content and media track that shows developers the best ways to integrate animation, motion graphics, video, rich-media and web-based content into their applications; and dozens of hands-on labs that offer a unique opportunity to work directly with Apple engineers.

WWDC will show developers a full featured version of Leopard and also give them a beta copy for testing. Hopefully Leopard will not see any more delays and be available in October.

Of course what we really care about is whether they will release the iPhone that has already been “confirmed” by Cingular.

In the photo obtained by Gadgetell, clearly some time is for the iPhone, but the bulk of time will be spent admiring just how nice TV shows, specifically The Office look on the iPhone screen. Jobs will show us 3 episodes in all.

Ok, so we’ve got no idea what will take 3 hours to cover, or even if Jobs has the fortitude to amaze us for that long a time span. Our money is on The Office, as he clearly favored it in the iPhone unveiling. That, or more family vacation photos.

Update: We now know it was a typo and Jobs does not in fact have the fotitude to amaze us for that long of time. What a let-down.

“Leopard is shaping up to be a more significant release than anyone expected, with much more to come than any of the developer builds have led on,” one source said.

Also scheduled for June is the updated version of Apple’s iLife and iWork suites, which are said to include many new, Leopard-dependant, features. One source reported Apple will be dropping the “07″ or similar, from the ending of it’s software suites and possibly going with “Leopard edition” or something along those lines.

For all the Office users out there, Microsoft is expected to release it’s next version of Office for Mac (is to be released in the second-half of 2007). I don’t know how well this will go over as the new version of the iWork suite is said to be made to directly compete with Office, especially with the rumors of the inclusion of a new spreadsheet app. One thing is certain out of all this skepticism, Leopard’s unreleased functionality is guaranteed to awe us.
