Crowded HDD market inspires forward thinking quad interface from Verbatim

Verbatim announced their new 500GB and 1 TB hard disk drive aimed at those of us with large libraries of photos and music. The new units feature 4 different interface options: “USB 2.0, FireWire 400, FireWire 800 and eSATA II (external Serial ATA II)” for Mac and PC. This means whichever port you happen to have vacant, it will probably work with these drives.

Protected by an aluminum housing, the drives are small and easily transported from desk to desk and their large size can eliminate multiple smaller HDDs. The drives also include Nero for automatic Windows machine backups.

Samsung intro’s the Spinpoint M6, a 2.5-inch 500GB hard drive

Samsung’s latest announcement means they are getting closer to putting 1TB of storage with a single drive into notebooks. The newly announced Spinpoint M6 hard drive is the “world’s first” 2.5-inch 500GB notebook drive.

The 500GB hard drive was produced by combining three 167GB platters into the hard drives small frame which achieves the 500GB total capacity. Despite its storage capacity, the Spinpoint M6 still boasts a 5,400 RPM capability. Fast enough for most everyone’s mobile computing needs. Samsung has announced the drive is currently shipping, however they have not yet announced which PC maker will be carrying the hard drive.
