Vodafone to offer Dell Inspiron Mini 9 for free, but with a catch

Quickly following the announcement of the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 earlier this month, Vodafone made their own announcement about the upcoming availability of a subsidized model that was expected to be available “in late September.” At the time the details were light, and pricing was still unknown. The latest addition to this story comes as more »

Dell Inspiron Mini 9′s may not have integrated 3G?

Despite some earlier reports and statements coming from inside Dell, its now being speculated that the Dell Inspiron Mini 9′s that are being sold here in the US do not have that previously mentioned integrated 3G.

If you remember back, the statement regarding the inclusion of the 3G came from Dell spokeswoman Anne Camdenm and she mentioned that “there’s a hidden bonus, however: an integrated 3G card.” Of course it was not mentioned just which of the Mini 9′s have that integrated 3G card and now its looking like its just those that will be sold outside the US, namely through Vodafone.

Dell’s little secret; The Inspiron Mini 9 already has Integrated 3G

With the launch of the Inspiron Mini 9, it seems Dell has decided to hold back the details on what most would consider a pretty important feature. The fact that the Mini 9 already includes an integrated 3G card. According to Dell spokeswoman Anne Camdenm “there’s a hidden bonus, however: an integrated 3G card.” Of course the first reaction is nothing more than, Very Cool! However you cannot help but wonder if that “hidden bonus” added any additional cost that may go unused by lots of buyers. Could Dell have shaved a few extra bucks off the pricing? Maybe, maybe not.

Anyway, as of now, Dell has not announced (other than Vodafone) which wireless carriers would be picking up the device. This could mean for some slow initial sales here in the US. Personally I was planning to purchase the Mini 9 for myself, but I may wait for some carrier announcements with the hope of seeing a subsidized version become available.
