Asus CEO announces 4 million Eee PC’s have been sold
Despite any feelings that you may have regarding netbooks, it is hard to argue against their popularity. And if there is any doubt as to how popular they really are, you may want to ask Asus. The whole netbook revolution is just barely one year old, and Asus CEO Jerry Shen has just given up some details on the sales figures for the Eee PC.
It turns out that they have already sold nearly four million Eee PCs, and have plans to reach the five million mark by the end of 2008. Given the lower pricing that we have been seeing lately, coupled with the never ending lineup of new models, it seems only safe to believe they will reach that goal of five million. Of course, that belief is coming from a regular netbook user. I cannot help but wonder how many of those four million sales came from buyers (like myself) who started with an Eee PC 701 and moved on to other models in the Eee PC lineup as they were introduced. The Eee PC turns one today
It was just one year ago that Asus unveiled the Eee PC and created what has become the netbook craze. It was October 16, 2007 when the Eee PC 701 first became available, of course at that time the availability was limited to Taiwan. But how quickly and drastically things can change in just one year.
Since the release of the 701, we have seen netbooks take off. Not only has Asus continued to expand in this market, but countless others including HP, Acer, MSI and Dell have rolled out their own models to compete. More on the Eee after the break.
Asus looks to return to their Eee roots, enter the Eee PC 701SD
The original Eee PC 701, its an almost forgotten model of the Eee lineup, which is sad because its not a bad model, but Asus has since taken the Eee name and filled it to the breaking point with newer, better, slightly bigger and of course more expensive models. Asus to ship the Eee PC 900 to US stores on May 12
Asus has finally announced that the Eee PC 900 will be hitting US stores on May 12. Retail price will be $549 for both Linux and Windows XP versions. U.S. consumers would be treated with all the good stuff that we reported a couple of days ago:
