AT&T’s takeover of T-Mobile is dead

And just like that, AT&T’s $39 billion proposal to purchase T-Mobile USA is over. It’s dead. It’s not happening. On Monday, AT&T released a statement admitting the proposal’s defeat. This comes a day after sources for the Wall Street Journal said AT&T’s efforts to sell assets to smaller carriers to save the T-Mobile deal had hit a wall. AT&T now has to give T-Mobile USA’s parent company Deutsche Telekom $4 billion comprised of cash and spectrum.

Rhapsody buys Napster

The on-demand music streaming business is more competitive now than it has ever been before. This is especially true since MOG introduced FreePlay and Spotify gave away six months of free service for new users. Rdio is going to have a free option too. In an effort to stay above the competition, Rhapsody announced it has decided to purchase Napster for an undisclosed amount.

AT&T’s bid to acquire T-Mobile USA has gotten more grim. Simply put, Hundt doesn’t think AT&T stands a chance in this case.

February 2013 is the end date for Google, Motorola Mobility deal

Google’s hopeful acquisition of Motorola Mobility now lies in the hands of regulators who have to decide whether or not this deal is too massive to be approved. Google is going to spend $12.5 billion for Motorola Mobility, but promised to give Motorola $2.5 billion should the deal not go through. The buyout was originally expected to be complete by early 2012 at the latest. That data has been pushed back about a year.

Microsoft wanted to buy Motorola Mobility too

Google shocked us all yesterday when it announced it was acquiring Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion. We certainly didn’t see that coming, but we could have just as easily replaced Google with Microsoft. According to GigaOM, Microsoft had eyes for Motorola Mobility as well.

Google on the hook for $2.5 billion if Motorola deal falls through

Yesterday, Google announced it was trying to purchase Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion. I try “trying” because the deal is not done yet. With acquisitions this massive, the two companies must get the approval of regulatory committees and stockholders. If for any reason the deal falls through, Google will owe Motorola Mobility $2.5 billion.

Virgin Mobile pokes fun at AT&T / T-Mobile merger, highlights the no-contract $35 per month plan

We have seen more than our fair share of people both for and against the T-Mobile and AT&T merger up until this point, and it looks like we have a bit more for our enjoyment. The latest comes by way of Virgin Mobile who are touting how AT&T was last in customer service and how more »

Push Pop Press may not jump to the front of your mind when you think of eBook publishers, but it brought a new twist to the usually bland world of eBooks. Back in April, Push Pop Press published Al Gore’s Our Choice for iOS devices. Our Choice was a very robust eBook complete with embedded videos, interactive graphs and plenty of commentary. Push Pop Press will now take its talents to Facebook.

Google has been throwing its money around lately. Last month, Google acquired a facial recognition company called PittPatt and a company that specializes in creating social networking groups called Fridge. This week, Google has purchased a daily deals site named The Dealmap for an undisclosed amount.
