LG Optimus Black tipped for release with Virgin Mobile, US Cellular, Alltel and Sprint

LG originally announced the Optimus Black smartphone during CES and since then we have heard a bit of chatter about the handset. More specifically, we had seen Telus announce the Skype edition of the handset recently. That being said, it looks like those in the US will soon have the opportunity to pick up an more »

HTC Merge may not be heading to Verizon after all, was recently spotted with Alltel branding

The HTC Merge and Verizon release rumors were in overdrive for a little while and then just died off. Of course, they died off because of the final one which stated that Verizon had killed off the release. Well, flash forward till today and it looks like the answer to why they killed off the more »

Virginia is for AT&T lovers – accelerates upgrades in state

AT&T is bumping their schedule by at least 6 months in switching over wireless assets purchased from Verizon in June. The company expects the work to be completed by the end of this year or the beginning of next (confirming all their jobs have a large window). In addition to enhanced coverage for Virginians, AT&T more »

Alltel Wireless unveils the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230, available beginning in May

Alltel Wireless has announced the upcoming availability of the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230, which is slightly surprising considering most people expected it to land with Verizon or Sprint first. Anyway, aside from being a CDMA handset, the Pearl Flip 8230 retains most of the same features that we saw with the release of T-Mobile’s (8220) more »

Treo Pro coming Thursday?

Go figure. Alltel (who has no relation to Gadgetell whatsoever, though if we were to buy a teleco, the name is so close, it would make loads of sense) looks to be the go-getter bringing the once-exciting-but-not-so-much-now Treo Pro to market first in the US. According to a rumor over at BGR, the phone will launch at $199 in the US.

I’ve man-handled the Pro and found it to be nice. But just nice, not amazing or mind blowing like some other sibling phone. It is just OK. Which is most likely why Sprint is launching it on the Alltel brand so as not to steal thunder or create confusion when it drops the Palm Pre slated for the first half of this year. It is a move that makes some sense.

The phone features 3G speeds, WiFi (a big step for Palm) and GPS. It is a decent phone that we’ve all but forgotten about as I fear have many consumers. The phone was unveiled back in August unlocked at $549. I’ve yet to see anyone in the field with this phone.

Alltel and Paramount: Buy a phone, get 3 movies

Alltel is running a promotion where if you buy a Samsung Delve, you will get a microSD card with all three Mission: Impossible movies on it. To get the movies after purchasing the phone, you need to mail in a redemption card. You should get the microSD card in the mail within 2 months. In order to get the movies, you must purchase the Delve between February 20th and April 16th of this year.

Samsung has a mini-site dedicated to its Delve and Mission: Impossible deal. The site gives one more detail: you can get the card as long as supplies last. There is no info on how many cards they are have available.

Verizon’s Friends & Family plan to offer similar features as Alltel’s My Circle

Since Verizon has now purchased Alltel, subscribers have wondered if the company would offer “My Circle” as a feature on their plans. My Circle was a group of friends or family that you could call an unlimited number of times and not have it count against your plan minutes. Verizon announced this week, its new Friends & Family feature, a comparable option to My Circle.

With the Friends & Family single line option, you can choose 5 of your contacts to make unlimited calls to without using your plan minutes. For family line users, the allowance is extended to 10 contacts.

However, the option does not come without some catches.

HTC Touch Pro now available with Alltel

Alltel has joined the ranks of Sprint and AT&T and have added the HTC Touch Pro to its smartphone lineup. The Touch Pro will set you back $379.99, however there is a $100 mail-in-rebate available, which assuming you get that back, will bring your final cost down to $279.99. In addition, in order to get more »
