Gadgetell Review: Cobra XRS 9960G Radar and Laser Detector

The model that I tested was the Cobra XRS 9960G Digital Radar and Laser Detector with the GPS Locator, it is currently available and retails for $389.95. The unit also comes with a lifetime subscription to the AURA Database which allows you stay up to date with the latest information including the locations of speed traps, speed cameras, red light cameras and dangerous intersections. The setup does take a few minutes, it is not hard by any means, but due to the GPS Locator it does require a little more effort than just sticking it on your windshield and plugging it in. Of course, you could simply use the radar detector by itself, but the GPS Locator is what really makes this unit special. Without getting super technical, I will say that using the XRS 9960G was a pleasure.

Motorola shows off MotoSurf, other new products at CES

Motorola’s new MotoSurf A3100 was the highlight of their booth. The new smartphone is powered by a skinned version of Windows Mobile 6.1, has a 2.8-inch touch screen display, and two cameras. Many of other things things in their booth were merely concepts, or products like WiMax that do not yet affect our lives — unless you live in Portland or Baltimore — however products like the Aura (the goofy-looking silver swivel phone) are fairly fresh.

Perhaps its just due to the fact that I work from home and rarely leave long enough to need a radar detector, but I had not realized that they have become so sophisticated. Nonetheless, these two new detectors from Cobra have me almost wishing I still had a commute. These new models are actually just more »

Motorola AURA to come with contract that prevents future sale on eBay?

We have recently seen the Motorola AURA in all its expensive glory, and now there seems to be another twist in the story. The twist is thankfully just in the rumor stage, and although we are not sure it is believable, it kind of sounds like it would be something that Moto would do with a luxury handset.

The story goes that a “source close to the company” has leaked some information stating that any AURA owners will not be able to resell the phone on eBay. In fact, the source has stated that anyone who buys an AURA will have to “sign into a contract that states they can’t sell it on eBay.” Plenty more after the break.
