We can’t trust this Windows Mobile leak
Several screen shots are making the rounds as of late, purporting to be a leak of what Microsoft will unveil to the world next month in Barcelona at the GSMA World Congress. The shots show a new home screen, browser improvements, and a new way for touch screens to navigate through Windows icons. Don’t believe it.
While Microsoft could learn a thing or two about keeping secrets from Apple, I don’t believe these screen shots are real. I hold that it is far more likely some punk with Photoshop is having its way with the blogging media. There are a few points that make this case for me.
AMD readying 12-core 45nm processors for late 2008
Forget quad-core, AMD is preparing a dodeca-core chip. If you didn’t stay in boarding school if you need refreshing with your greek vocabulary, dodeca means 12, and that’s 12 cores for you right there. Imagine, a dozen times faster than a normal chip. But how fast does one’s computer ever really need to be? AMD doesn’t seem to care if there’s an answer to that question or not (just as its closest competitor Intel doesn’t), and moves on with their plan to produce a 12-core processor to be released by late 2008. It will reportedly be called the Shanghai, and will be a 45nm successor to their not-so-successful Barcelona chip.
Gadgetell Mashup: 4 new iPhone challengers emerge
If you are like me, you were hoping to be bowled over by this years fresh crop of phones being unveiled across the Atlantic at the MWC (Mobile World Congress) in Barcelona, Spain. The biggest question on my mind is this: who is raising the bar? When the Apple made it clear the rumors of their entry into the phone market were true, many analysts predicted they couldn’t hack this tough road. Since those predictions, we’ve waited for a response. Is there anything debuting this year that will make us stand in line for? Here are the contestants:
Nokia’s hot over/under slider
Meet the N96, a 16GB over/under slider that is the new tough guy on the block. Shown today at MWC, the Nokia beauty is impressive. The phone slides down revealing a number pad as normal, but also slides up revealing entertainment controls. Fun. It packs just about everything you could want in a phone.
Gadgetell Mashup: Hot phone releases for Barcelona
If you remotely rely on your phone, you know this is the big event of the year for new phones. Beautiful Barcelona is where all the hot action happens and this year (should be) the year of the touchscreens. Will we see the industry’s response to the iPhone? I have no idea, but here are what the contenders are releasing early to get our attention:
Hot new Samsung slider to show next week
Check out this sultry Samsung slider, dubbed “the Soul”. “Uhn”, as in a James Brown, “uhn”. Samsung is calling this its flagship model, so you can be the price will be on the premium side of things. This beauty will show this phone next week in Barcelona and Samsung looks mighty proud of it.
Glofish debuts 2 hot phones in Barcelona
E-TEN dropped two new phones for their Glofish brand, and they look impressive. E-Ten’s Glofish brand is getting sexier and these new phones are the latest proof. These new phones are Pocket PC phones geared to always connected freaks like me rather than business folk. Both models feature HSDPA, WiFi and GPS.
