Netflix and Time Warner have come to an agreement to bring certain shows from the CW network to Netflix. Starting on Saturday October 15, eight programs such as The Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl and The Secret Circle will be available to watch instantly from Netflix. The deal will last four years. According to the New York Times, this new licensing deal is worth $1 billion.

Amazon announced that it has made a deal with NBCUniversal that will give it access to part of the Universal Studios movie library. CBS television content now available for Amazon Prime customers to stream

Owning an Amazon Prime subscription has more perks than simply free two day shipping on most shipments. In fact, Amazon Prime users have the ability to instantly stream videos from Amazon’s growing video library for free. It’s sort of a rival service to Netflix, and after the recent debacle regarding a price increase, Amazon is more »

Execs still optimistic on 3D -It’s gonna be huge

The 3D revolution will be televised. That’s the word from a conference held last week on how 3D is pushing its way into our cultural mainstream. As proof, the conference pointed to six of the top ten movies of 2010 were 3D movies. And it looks like more will be as the number of theaters more »

Online video war part 2: Battle of the network sites

We’re back with another helpful post on how to find the best in online video. Last time, we covered Joost, Hulu, and Sling. This time, we’re talking about the individual networks. While it may be more work to go to different sites, you will get better quality video and that’s worth the trouble of typing in a few URLs. Also find out which sites to avoid.

Will Hulu pull more content? Gadgetell talks to the makers of PlayOn

With Hulu pulling their content from Boxee, there’s a question as to what will happen to other programs that pull content from Hulu. PlayOn from MediaMall is a Windows program that browses video services from CBS, ESPN, Hulu, Netflix, and YouTube through display devices like the Xbox 360 and the PS3. Gadgetell got a chance to talk to MediaMall to see their reaction and if they feared a similar move by Hulu.

Jeff Lawrence, President & CEO of MediaMall, told us that they pride themselves “in honoring 100% the terms of use associated with all the various content available through the PlayOn browser.” He also said that PlayOn is just a “sophisticated browser which allows (authorized/paying) consumers to browse and consume Internet Video content in compliance with the terms and conditions of those content providers.”

Hulu says “Bye bye” to Boxee

Hulu announced today that its content providers have requested Hulu’s content to be removed from Boxee. If you haven’t heard of it, Boxee is a free media center and is an offshoot of the XBox Media Center that currently supports Mac and Linux (Windows support is coming). In the blog post announcing the cut, the Hulu team comes off almost as frustrated as I am as a Boxee-user.

Hulu has a right to be quite frustrated. It just launched a big ad campaign during the Super Bowl. Now is not the time to have your content providers pushing you around and forcing you to alienate part of your user-base. Boxee’s response in its blog was disappointed, but understanding.

Bring the net to your TV: Sony Bravia leads the way

Sony announced they’ve added some new partners for their connected Bravia TVs. These TVs, when hooked up to broadband, bring the net experience to your living room. Sony is doing this in an extremely controlled fashion.

How controlled? One at a time, baby. That is right: they added CBS which uses Flash 10 for content, as does Hulu but Sony does not have a partnership with them. You’ll have access to their partners via a special link, not a browser. Curious?

Of course you are! So was I. So I asked Sony. Check out their answers after the break.

Do you Hulu yet? Here are ten shows that make it worth it.

You must have heard all the hype about Hulu by now. How it gives you the ability to watch your favorite shows online, any time you want. How it’s easy to use, and so convenient. How it is — (drum roll here) — FREE.

Granted, there are several different places you can go to watch different television shows, but, I’ve found that for reliability, Hulu is really way up there. Now, I know my title said TEN reasons, but, I couldn’t knock it down to just ten. So I’m going with eleven reasons to Hulu. I know, what a rebel.

YouTube offers full length TV shows

YouTube announced that they will be offering full-length TV shows online. Of course, Google, the proud owner of YouTube, will certainly place advertisements in the upcoming TV shows. Google said that the advertisements would be slotted just like ads on television with interruptions appearing during, before and after the actual program That’s not so surprising more »
