The FCC puts an end to loud commercials
We’ve all experienced situations when we’re watching television late at night and the volume suddenly spikes during a commercial. We jump up, fumble with the remote and lay there angry for another five minutes because our zen-like state had been interrupted. I’m here to tell you that won’t be a problem for too much longer. The Federal Communications Commission has made it so we won’t have to suffer through those moments ever again.
Hulu Ad Swap lets users choose commercials on the fly
Hulu has been letting its users choose their ad experience for a while, but Hulu has another way to maximize the effectiveness of those ads. On Monday, Hulu introduced Ad Swap which does exactly what you may think. If you become annoyed with a commercial that is in no way relevant to you, you can instantly change the commercial to something more tolerable.
Amazon begins the holiday push, offers up two new Kindle commercials [Video]
In true holiday season, Amazon has kicked things off with a few new Kindle commercials. They are both of the 30 second made for television variety and as much as I hate to say it — make me wish I had a regular Kindle again. With that, feel free to check out the commercials below more »

A short while back we saw the leaked AT&T commercial for the HTC Mondrian and today it looks like we now have some images. And just like that, we have a few Windows Phone 7 commercials from AT&T. The two both feature the HTC Mondrian smartphone and well, they are commercials. Palm and ad agency Modernista part ways, new partner and hopefully better commercials coming
Just a few short weeks back, we saw Palm release an ad that, well, at the time was described as not sucking. That of course may not be the nicest way to describe it, but after seeing the past ads it was fitting. But now it looks like we may be seeing a whole new more »
Super Bowl ads all over the web
Whether you’re a sports fan or not, I’m sure you were aware that the Super Bowl was last night. While the game turned out to be a fun one, there are always the commercials for those not interested in football.
NBC.com, Hulu.com, and NFL.com have all the ads collected on each of their sites. Strangely, NFL.com and Hulu make you sit through an ad before you get to watch a Super Bowl ad. Hulu seems to have the best video player of the three, the NFL site actually has game highlights (in 4:3, why?), and NBC is probably the most convenient since you don’t have to sit through a pre-ad ad.
TiVo to release next day Super Bowl data for 7th consecutive year
TiVo will use its audience measurement tools to provide overnight industry reports regarding the most popular moments that occur during Super Bowl XLIII. This is the seventh year that TiVo will be able to provide calculations on how viewers responded to the game plays, commercials, and entertainment that occurs during the broadcast in the quickest manner possible.
In order to gather the data, TiVo measures the viewing habits of 20,000 random homes that have the TiVo service. To gauge the interest level of the audience, TiVo provides data on how many viewers watched specific moments on the normal play speed without fast forwarding.
TiVo CEO addresses advertising crisis
The CEO of TiVo, Tom Rogers, has come forward and addressed the ad crisis that is hitting the television industry. He admits that TiVo is a big part of the problem since the device allows users to fast forward through commercials. The company plans to find alternative ways that advertisers can still reach consumers while using a Tivo.
His plan is to allow for an interactive method of advertising where the TV viewer would be able to pause their program while learning about an advertised product. He also suggested targeting advertising based on the programs that the viewer is watching. For example, a viewer watching a program about babies would see a diaper ad. Rogers doesn’t expect that traditional advertising will become totally obsolete just yet; many viewers still watch programs the traditional way, like sporting events.
