AMD starts shipping 32nm Llano APU, systems should be coming this quarter
AMD hasn’t had much luck getting the drop on Intel as of late. With its latest chips, that seems to be changing. AMD has announced that its 32nm Llano A-series Accelerated Processing Units (APUs) have started shipping, and systems with the chips should start shipping this quarter (Q2). These Llano APUs come from the Fusion more »

On Wednesday, Jha announced that Motorola was taking on more »
ARM CEO has high hopes for netbooks
ARM CEO Warren East, made a very bold statement recently by saying that netbooks will dominate at least 90% of the PC market over the next few years. He also went on to say that ARM intends to power up more netbooks with ARM-based CPU architecture. It is widely known that Windows does not support more »
New company promises 100 core CPUs by next year
The biggest thing in CPU technology right now seems to be how many cores someone can fit on a chip, then how fast those cores will run. Intel right now looks to be leading the pack with its quad-core Core i7, and rightfully so, that chip is awesome. A new company spun out of M.I.T., more »
AMD introduces $99 quad-core CPU
With Windows 7 quickly approaching next month, now is the best time for new product announcements to coincide with the OS release. Usually that would mean new desktops, laptops, and this time around, netbooks. AMD is taking a different angle, however, and is going after those who build their own PCs. What better way to more »
So you say you’re a geek? Take our quiz to be sure.
So, you say you’re a geek. You’re proud of the title. You wear you geekiness as a badge of honor, eh? Well, before you slap that big “G” on your chest, take our little Geek-o-Meter quiz to find out where you really rate on the Geek Scale.
First, do you even know what a “geek” is?? Well, according to good old dictionary.com…it means a few different things. Now, let’s hope you aren’t trying to be number three. Ummm…gross.
geek Slang.–noun1. a peculiar or otherwise dislikable person, esp. one who is perceived to be overly intellectual.2. a computer expert or enthusiast (a term of pride as self-reference, but often considered offensive when used by outsiders.)3. a carnival performer who performs sensationally morbid or disgusting acts, as biting off the head of a live chicken.
Now that we have that out of the way, on to the nuts and bolts of it. Are you or aren’t you a bona fide member of the Geek Club? How many of the following questions can you answer “yes” to? (without googling). And I didn’t even make these especially hard, so let’s see how you rate.
Two new devices from a possible Verizon/Apple partnership?
As JG mentioned yesterday, rumors are floating about talks between Verizon and Apple. AT&T just might be losing exclusive rights to their major breadwinner.
But, it seems more and more as though if the deal does go through that we won’t be looking at the exact same iPhone just marketed through a different carrier. All that nasty exclusivity confusion and all that. We are hearing whispers of an iPhone Lite for one, by one person who claims to have seen a prototype of the device. The iPhone Lite is obviously similar to its big brother, just more compact and less expensive. My…a cheaper iPhone. Somehow I think the people just may like that part.
NVIDIA to make x86 CPU
NVIDIA, one of the two largest companies in the field of graphics chips is looking to get into the CPU market. It won’t necessarily be showing up in your desktop computer anytime soon, but the idea is still there. Actually, the chips will most likely find their way into notebooks and netbooks which need to more »
Dual Core Via nanos by 2010
By now, we all know the standard specs for netbooks. So many companies use the Intel Atom CPU, it’s sometimes easy to forget there is another major competitor in the field. One of the few netbooks to use something other than Intel processors was the original HP Mini-note. HP used the VIA Nano CPU, partially because the Atom wasn’t available yet. VIA has recently shown where the Nano chips are going, but it is going to take a while.
The dual core version of the Nano isn’t due out until June 2010 according to VIA’s roadmap. However, there isn’t much information on the dual core Nano aside from the fact that it will feature a “new process technology” and it will be compatible with current motherboards using VIA Nanos.
