Verizon starts slowing 3G data speeds for some customers

This week, Verizon started to implement what it’s calling “network optimization” for its 3G network. Verizon’s network optimization is the carrier’s way of slowing the data speeds for the top five percent of its customers that have unlimited 3G data plans. The top five percent of users are identified as using 2GB of data or more in a month. Verizon isn’t using the term “throttling” to describe its actions because it’s doing things a little differently than competitors such as T-Mobile.
