Sprint disables Carrier IQ software

The negative attention Carrier IQ has been getting lately has caused Sprint to back off on its use of the software. Sprint confirmed to Mobile Burn that it has “disabled use of the tool so that diagnostic information and data is no longer being collected.” Sprint cites customer concerns as the reason why it came to this decision.

This situation with Carrier IQ went from non-existent to an international media phenomenon in a matter of days. Various governments as well as customers want to know if Carrier IQ’s software really is keeping track of their every keystroke and spying on their personal messages. Sprint is taking away unlimited data for hotspots and mobile broadband devices

Sprint is once again making changes to its service plans. Although it is the only nationwide major carrier to offer a real unlimited plan for smartphones, it will not be extending that courtesy for all of its data devices any longer. U.S. Cellular customers purchase more smartphones, tiered data incoming

U.S. Cellular reported a pretty good second quarter. The carrier saw its service revenues increase to $1.002 billion which is 3% more than last year. Its net income was $73.9 million which is up from $40.8 million a year ago. U.S. Cellular has achieved these levels even though it lost subscribers.
