Black Friday 2011: hhgregg’s doorbuster deals

Black Friday is getting really close. You’re going to need a game plan if you’re going to be one step ahead of all those crowds. Some would say a good strategy is getting some companions together to wait in line at different stores to score similar items for similar prices. We’re going to make that technique a tad bit easier for you for filling you in on the doorbusting deals hhgreg has up its sleeve this year for Black Friday. The stores will open at midnight, so be there several hours beforehand to claim a good spot in line.

Canon 5D Mark II used to film entire season finale episode of House

When you think Hollywood, you imagine big name actors, an exquisite fashion sense and some bulky recording cameras right? Well you can forget about those old fashioned video cameras as the cool kids in Tinseltown are using D-SLR’s to film their shows these days. This year’s season finale of House was recorded entirely with Canon’s more »

Pentax announces the new Optio W80 digital camera

Pentax has just released information on their new digital camera, the Optio W80. Continuing with their quality digital cameras, the W80 is no different as it should please both casual photographers and serious photographers. To begin with, it is waterproof, dustproof, shockproof, and weather proof in the sense of handling extreme cold temperature (such as 14 degrees Fahrenheit).

As for “shockproof,” it can withstand a fall from three feet (which will definitely be a nice feature to those with shaky hands), and in terms of waterproof, it can go underwater at a depth of 16 feet. Basically, you can take pictures in the rain or underwater, without worrying about possible water damage. In addition, it is a 12MP camera, with 5x optical zoom, wide angle 28mm lens, and a “Super Protect” coating which protects the device and lens from fingerprints and oil.

It features a 2.5-inch LCD screen with anti-reflective technology, HD movie capture, Fast Face Detection Technology, Anti-Shake technology, and super close focusing, which allows very close objects to be in clear focus. It is set to be available in July 2009. The Pentax Optio W80 will be available in several versions including a cardinal red, gunmetal gray, or azure blue for $299.

PENTAX brings the latest to their K line with the compact and rugged K-7

Pentax has a new toy in their K line and it’s worth a second look. It’s the Pentax K-7. Compact, rugged, with a whole new body design, the 14.6 megapixel DSLR may be all new and improved, but it still works with every Pentax lens out there.

Pentax is designing this one with an obvious push towards serious photographers who know their way around a camera, but don’t want to necessarily pay the uber-high end ticket price of a professional DSLR system.

Sony releases the next generation Cybershot: the HX1

The new Sony Cybershot HX1 has lots of the features of a professional grade camera in a small package. New upgrades for the camera include 9.1 megapixels, high speed shooting that captures 10 frames per second, high def video recording, 20x optical zoom and a 3 inch LCD viewer screen. The Sony Cybershot HX1 is more »

Pentax unveils its X70 with 24x optical zoom

Pentax has just unveiled its newest camera, the X70 Megazoom. The camera has a 24x optical zoom which makes sense since it is called a “Megazoom.” The camera looks like a DSLR but is supposed to be an in-between camera — not quite a DSLR and not quite a point and shoot. It has a more »

Recession-O-Rama deals for the weekend 2.1.09

Here we go — continuing with our weekend deals. A new month and I hope the economy straightens itself out a little. It’s the last month of winter, it’s almost time for spring, that’s always a positive thing. Today, we have some deals on a MP3 player, a digital camera, and a LCD monitor.

Pentax’s white K2000 available for pre-order

The Pentax K2000 is now available for pre-order directly from Pentax’s website. The all white DSLR comes with an 18-55mm and a 50-200mm lens (although it’s compatible with every Pentax lens ever created), all for around $679.95 with the body. The camera won’t actually ship until February.

The K2000 takes 10.2 megapixel pictures, has shake reduction, ISO from 100-3200, a 2.7-inch LCD with 170-degree viewing, and has an “Advanced Auto Picture” mode which automatically selects the most appropriate shooting mode for a particular situation.

Canon shows off tons of cameras

Shortly before CES, Canon unveiled almost a dozen new camcorders. They all were on display at CES and Gadgetell played with some of them.

Virtually all of the HD consumer camcorder line can now record in a 24Mbps mode called MXP. Why does this matter? The higher the bitrate, the higher the quality of video. If you’re a video podcaster or just like making movies, this stuff matters to you. The tape-based HV40 records in 25Mbps in HDV format.
