It’s extremely important that print publications have a presence on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. Time Inc. realizes this and will release tablet versions of its 21 United States publications before the year is over.

3M will launch an ebook library lending service for tablets

Amazon will be starting up the Kindle Library Lending service soon that may completely change how we check out books from the library. Through this service, 11,000 libraries will allow devices with the Kindle app to digitally checkout books at a moment’s notice. Notes can also be taken within the books and saved using Whispersync. 3M Library Systems will launch a similar service this year called the 3M Cloud Library.

Kindle proves digital books sell better than physical books

Amazon is shrieking (not literally) with glee today. It has announced that books purchased for the Kindle have now surpassed physical book sales. Amazon said that number includes both hardcover and paperback books. As one of the leaders in digital book distribution, Amazon has proven that physical book sales will continue to decline as e-readers and tablets become more popular and affordable.

Jesse Jackson Jr. blames the iPad for job losses

U.S. Representative Jesse Jackson Jr. is sure to receive flak from the tech community over his comments recently linking the loss of American jobs to the success of the iPad. Jackson started off by talking about how the unemployment rate in the United States is hovering around 9 percent, effectively leaving over 13 million Americans without work. We can attribute the massive job losses to a lot of things, but we’d never thought the iPad would be one of those reasons.

RCA’s mobile digital televisions go on sale this week

RCA is ready to release a line of hybrid mobile DTV units this week. RCA’s 3 mobile televisions will cost between $119 and $179. These devices are capable of grabbing digital television signals and mobile DTV signals at the same time. They’re essentially mini televisions that may or may not be useful to you.
