Rumor: First Acer-branded smartphone is really a rebranded Glofiish DX900

During mid-2008 Acer announced plans to purchase E-Ten and make an entry into the smartphone market. Well, fast forward about six-months and it seems that the first Acer branded smartphone will soon be announced.

Sadly, it may not come as an exciting announcement because it looks like that first handset is going to be a re-branding of an already existing Glofiish handset. That’s right, rumor has it that the first Acer smartphone will be nothing more than the Glofiish DX900.

Is this the first Acer Smartphone? I wish!

No, this is not what Acer has up its sleeve for introduction in Barcelona on February 16th. But I bet it is close. The reasons why are rather simple.

Glofiish

Acer dropped some major cash to pick up this brand and their tech. Then they set 500 staffers to the task of creating smartphones. I suspect given the pretty good looking phones Gloffish was able to put out, Acer will offer something attractive.

We first saw E-Ten announced their Glofiish X610 and V900 smartphones about six months back, however until now there has been very little in terms of details. Well it seems that E-Ten has re-announced both models however they have still not announced an exact release date, leaving it as they will be available soon.

The Glofiish X610 is a quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE handset and features a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen display, 2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, FM radio, Wi-Fi and GPS. The X610 has 128MB ROM and 64MB SDRAM, will be running Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and powered by a 400MHz SC3 2442 Samsung processor.

Tired of bringing two phones everywhere you go? Your prayers may have just been answered by E-TEN’s latest offering, the Glofiish DX900. E-Ten prepping the Glofiish DX900 dual-SIM smartphone?

Overall the DX900 has a similar appearance as the V900. Feature wise it is expected to offer the two SIM card slots, as well as feature quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE, triband more »

Acer, E-Ten team up to deliver smartphones by year’s end

Acer’s acquisition of Asian smartphone maker E-Ten has put them in a position to start manufacturing their own smartphones very soon. And they will, as confirmed by Acer President Gianfranco Lanci, saying that their company will release its first Windows Mobile powered smartphone by the end of this year or early next year. They’ll be more »

E-ten Glofiish M810, M750 to be made available soon

With people like us who stay online most of the time in mind, E-TEN Information Systems will be releasing two almost identical versions of a new WiFi-enabled and touchscreen-equipped Windows Mobile 6 Professional certified smartphone. Called the E-Ten Glofiish (not a typo) M810 and M750, these new smartphones are said to be targeted at bloggers, podcasters, video makers, and chatters, who need as much online time and connectivity options as they can get in order to keep their lives/ businesses running smoothly.

The Glofiish M810 has support for UTMS and HSDPA data connectivity, and will be equipped with a secondary camera that can be used freely in video calls. It will run on a Samsung S3C 2442 500MHz processor, has a quadband antenna, built-in Bluetooth and GPS, a microSD card slot and a miniUSB port. The Glofiish M750, meanwhile, has just about the same features minus the UTMS/HSDPA network support. Meaning, it will still have the same 2 megapixel camera with auto focus, 2.8-inch TFT screen, 256MB ROM / 64MB RAM, and the sliding form factor with a slide-out keyboard. Could these smartphones be a hit among netizens?

While the deal has not been made official just yet, Acer has announced having entering into an agreement to purchase E-Ten. For those unfamiliar, E-Ten is a mobile phone maker, who has been getting well known for their Windows Mobile-based Glofiish smartphone lineup. It is being reported that the deal is going for $290 million more »

Gadgetell Mashup: Hot phone releases for Barcelona

If you remotely rely on your phone, you know this is the big event of the year for new phones. Beautiful Barcelona is where all the hot action happens and this year (should be) the year of the touchscreens. Will we see the industry’s response to the iPhone? I have no idea, but here are what the contenders are releasing early to get our attention:

E-Ten Glofiish V900 also available in red

Just yesterday we showed off some pictures of the upcoming Glofiish V900 in both black and blue and now another version, this time in red has turned up. The pictures, which feature the V900 in red take away some of the style that the black version has going for it but still offers a nice looking phone. Of course like other posted pictures, its possible that someone just had a little phone with Photoshop, you can decide for yourself.
