T-Mobile has a decent Q3, Q4 is going to be a different story
T-Mobile reported its financial situation for the third quarter of 2011 today. All in all, T-Mobile did pretty good. In fact, T-Mobile saw its service revenues increase by one percent to $4.67 billion. That’s better than last quarter, but less than a percent worse than Q3 2011. On the customer side of things, T-Mobile gained 126,000 customers. Again, this was better than last quarter, but worse than Q3 2010. T-Mobile is also seeing continued growth in smartphone purchases with 10.1 million people using its 3G and 4G networks. Things are quite sunny right now, but it will likely go downhill in Q4 thanks to the iPhone 4S.
More than 55% of AT&T smartphone buyers choose iPhone
If you bought a smartphone last quarter from AT&T, chances are you’re on an iPhone. According to the companies earnings report, AT&T activated 4.1 million iPhones in Q4 while adding 7.4 million smartphones overall. That some impressive numbers considering the warnings from major news outlets that 2011 would be the year of the Verizon iPhone. more »
Palm posts “disappointing” Q3 results
Palm has recently posted their Q3 results, and I hate to say that many people would be surprised by this, but those results were not all that great. In fact, Palm posted a net loss of $22 million dollars. Of course, that loss almost seems good as compared to the $98 million loss that they more »

Who’s on Crack in Tech: 7.24.09
Another week, another round up of ideas that could use some time in a facility upstate. This week, we’ll look at the craziness brought about thanks to: RadioShack, Barnes & Noble, Apple forces Google to go web app, and MS up APPL down.
Nokia’s second quarter earnings plummet
Nokia has announced that its second-quarter earnings plummeted by 66%. The company blames the recession for the drop, saying demand for its products has diminished due to the economic turmoil. Their net profit was $535 million down from roughly €1.4 billion this time last year. Nokia shares fell 11% as a result of the news.
The company shipped 103 mobile devices this quarter, down 15% from a year ago and prices on their handsets fell to US $88 from US $104 last year. Their North American distribution fell 30%. Facing strong rivals in Apple and RIM, the company says it is trying to transform itself
Profits down, Dell is still optimistic
It should be of no surprise that yet another computer manufacturer is declaring a disappointing quarter in comparison to the same quarter of the previous year. Thankfully not every company is posting losses like Sony and Palm did. This time it’s Dell’s turn to admit that although it’s still making a profit, the profits aren’t more »
Microsoft’s profits down for first quarter ever
It’s been hard to tell so far looking at the major tech companies that there’s a recession going on. Both Apple and Google reported strong quarters for the beginning of the year despite the economic situation. There are some companies that have been losing money, but most, like Palm, were already doing poorly. Yet now, for the first time, we can say that Microsoft has posted a year-over-year decline for the quarter ending in March.
Palm posts a seventh consecutive bad quarter
As the company has already predicted, Palm has posted a rather disappointing quarter yet again. For its third quarter, Palm has reported a loss of $98 million. It’s not all that surprising considering it only shipped out 482,000 units during the quarter, down 42 percent from the third quarter the previous year.
Despite the Treo Pro, Palm fully expected to post a down quarter as it puts the finishing touches on the Pre. It would be safe to assume that a majority of people who would consider buying a Palm product at this point are just waiting for the Pre’s release. With the promises of what it is supposed to do, this just makes sense. Who would want an outdated Treo Pro when they could have the new shininess of WebOS? If the iPhone could convince people to buy into AT&T, I’m sure the Pre could sway people into getting a Sprint contract.
Yahoo announces loss but beats earnings estimates
They say every cloud has a silver lining. Or is it every corporate bad news has a spin master to make better? Whatever it is, Yahoo announced losses for the fourth quarter of 2008, but they also announced better earnings than estimated.
The total loss for the fourth quarter was $303 million. Yahoo posted $206 million in earnings the same time in 2007, meaning a half billion dollar difference.
