Who says it’s not easy being green? With these five fun gadgets, being green has never been quite so red hot! Why not stop paying for batteries? How about going green while losing weight? Samsung intros the solar-powered Blue Earth mobile phone
Samsung has recently unveiled the eco-friendly Blue Earth mobile phone and despite the fact that the back is a solar-panel the phone still offers a decent overall look. To begin with, the obvious look of the handset itself, the front side contains a large touchscreen display and the back features a solar panel that is reported to be capable of being able to make a call at just about any time.
The Blue Earth also features an “Eco Mode” that allows for items such as display brightness, backlight duration and Bluetooth to be run in a more energy efficient mode. Other eco-friendly features that you will find on the Blue Earth is the “Eco Walk” function that will count steps thanks to the built-in pedometer as well as an energy efficient charger. Of course, what eco-friendly phone would be complete without proper packaging, the Blue Earth is made from PCM (a recycled plastic) that is made from old water bottles and will ship in recycled packaging?

Netgear’s new “green” machines
With the number of home-based entertainment and productivity applications that are running over home networks growing by leaps and bounds, some Wireless-G routers just can’t handle users’ demands.

Dell to transition all laptops to LED displays by 2010
PC Magazine is reporting that Dell plans to change its laptop displays to mercury-free and energy saving LED backlighting. Two thirds of their Latitude E-series will ship with the new displays by December 15th, and they plan to have 80% of their laptops include the new LED backlights. The transition is expected to be completed by 2010.

You know those Staples ads that say “now we have an ‘Easy’ button”. Man, I wish I had an easy button that worked, but there is an easier way to become more eco-friendly with the Ecobutton. This is an ecologically friendly USB add-on that you put on the computer, and will help you reduce energy.
All a user needs to do is plug it in, and it goes into operation if you are away from your desk for too long. I think we all know that we waste so much energy when our computer is idling, and the company says it “adds up over the years creating a hefty carbon footprint that could only be rivaled by Bigfoot-if he used a PC”.
MSI’s eco-friendly motherboard; the Wind Board, Al Gore instantly upgrades computer
Considering that everyone seems to be on an eco-trip since that An Inconvenient Truth was released, it’s nice to know that someone in the computer design world is also paying attention.
MSI, for example, has designed a great new eco-friendly motherboard known as the Wind Board.
It has a passive cooling system, which means that there is no need for those fans that you see on most motherboards. As you might have guessed, that means a lot less noise, like zero decibels worth. So not only is it ecologically sound, it is also less noisy. Who would have thought that the eco-friendly option could be the better one?
