Beatles fans everywhere rejoice! The band’s catalog is finally being released in mp3 form, but don’t go running to iTunes. EMI loses case against digital music pioneer

A New York District judge has dismissed EMI’s copyright infringement lawsuit against MP3Tunes CEO Michael Robertson. In November, 2007 14 record labels affiliated with the EMI filed the suit, claiming MP3Tunes’s internet locker service encourages copyright infringement. The service, which has 150,000 customers, provides personal, password protected accounts known as lockers that allow all music stored in them to be shared between PCs, game consoles, DVRs and cell phones.

The judge has allowed the suit against the company itself to proceed. It will eventually determine if it is permissible for music to be stored in cloud services the way documents and photos are. Interestingly enough, EMI has not sued the similar services offered by Microsoft, AOL or BT. Robertson believes that the reason behind that is that EMI decided it would be easier to make an example out of his small company.

Its Official: The Beatles catalog is coming to iTunes

After what has amassed to literally years of Beatles and iTunes speculation and rumors ranging from everything to having the music added to a Yellow Submarine branded iPod.

Well, and I say this as a huge Beatles fan, I am glad to say its not the Yellow Submarine iPod that has come true, but instead it’s much more exciting news as the complete Beatles catalog will soon be hitting iTunes. Thanks to a reported $400 million deal, signed by Sir Paul McCartney who seems to be benefiting the most. However Ringo Starr as well as the families of both John Lennon and George Harrison will also benefit. We also cannot forget the record labels, EMI, Sony and Michael Jackson who all own at least partial shares of the collection as well.
