Technology for the homeless; cellphones on the streets of Washington DC
It may be something we do not expect, or quite possibly it is something we just do not think about, however, it seems that the homeless population in Washington DC is beginning to make good use of cellphones. A recent story in the Washington Post estimates that anywhere from 30-45-percent of the homeless population in Washington DC are carrying phones. Of course, based on the report it seems they are relying on pay-as-you-go models as opposed to a fancy smartphone, but even that is helping them improve their quality of life.
In the article there are several good examples of how they are being used, ranging from blogging about their experience, to using them in an effort to find a good place to stay or even use a restroom. Of course, there are some that are using them in much more efficient ways such as letting their families or loved ones know they are safe, to keep track of their food stamps and even helping with employment issues.

Troubled economy? Not for these gadgets
Despite uneasy feelings on Wall Stre5et, electronic gadgets are predicted to gain in sales by 3.5 percent over last year’s Q4. While overall spending is set to decline on holiday shopping, gadgets are somewhat immune. According the CEA (Consumer Electronics Association), specific gadgets will still do extremely well this holiday season.
Smartphones
Any product that increases connectivity with friends and loved ones will be spent on more heavily according to the CEA report. Consumers will forgo other luxury spending to get smartphones that can handle e-mail, texting, phoning and even Internet browsing. Consumers can justify the expense easier as the phone becomes integral to daily life.

iGoogle users furious over design changes
Google launched the redesign of its popular iGoogle portal last week and the complaints began almost immediately. Users are upset with the new look and furious that the redesigned interface was sprung on them with no prior announcement.
The interface allows users to collect web “gadgets” such as map and weather apps, organize RSS feeds and aggregate info such as news, sports and GMail.
