GPS was a huge gift this year for the holidays. CR noticed GPS via cell phone is starting to become a bigger player and decided to dig into if the hype lives up. Cell phone GPS allow you to eliminate a standalone device and turn your phone into an accurate, voice-enabled navigation device. CR uncovered several pros and cons and as an avid GPS industry observer, I’ll add my two cents as well.

This release has been in the works for a long time, and it looks like Verizon has finally made it official, with the Glyde hitting the available column later in the week. New photos of the highly anticipated Samsung Glyde, a touchscreen and “gliding” QWERTY keyboard equipped smartphone from good ol’ Samsung, has been leaked by a user over at Howard Forums. The shots were taken with a better camera phone and now show more of the Samsung Glyde’s unique user interface and some of its apps. One photo (above) also confirms that it’s going to have a full HTML browser, which further “reinforces” its status as a possible contender to the Apple iPhone (though Verizon says it will be the Voyager). Q1 2008 is quickly nearing its end and yet there has been no word from Verizon about the official release date yet.
