Is a free Gphone really coming this time?

TechCrunch is stacking up a bunch of rumors and is purporting that Google really does have a phone of its own brewing that they will bring to market on their own. This pinnacle of Android phone will be all Google power, optimized for every Google service (surely including Google Voice, now with VOIP???) and will more »

Free phones, free service: Welcome to Google, the non-teleco

Google is a self-proclaimed advertising company. They sell ads. It is their bread and butter. Now it seems, they might be using give-a-ways like phones and phone service as a way to create a new place to serve ads. Android was all about this plan though, we’re still not sure how it helps Google other more »

Android to get anti-malware software

SMobile is putting out some software to protect your G1 called VirusGuard. Android is a very open OS and plenty of people have thought about how to keep it secure. While Google has a kill switch for apps, that doesn’t stop you from downloading and running malware. This new application aims to protect Android from more »

San Francisco to get G1 tomorrow

Everyone knows that the G1 is coming out this Wednesday. That is, unless you live in San Francisco. You can get the G1 in San Francisco tomorrow, October 21st, at 6PM (Pacific Time) at the 3rd and Market store. If you’re not heading to SF for the phone early, just head off the rest of more »

Google Android app: Seismograph

While at the T-Mobile launch party the other night, someone showed off a little app called Seismograph. What is it? Shake the phone and watch your movements graphed for you. That’s it. No more, no less.

Seismograph is one of those “because we can” applications that uses the G1′s accelerometer. What else could you do with this app? Plenty of ideas and a video after the break.

Quick look at Google’s Android Market

Gadgetell got to take a look at the Android Market interface. This short video goes over some things you may have missed. As you can see in the video, the interface is extremely responsive to input. This particular G1 did not have any protective cover or screen guard or anything of the sort. Video after the break.

T-Mobile G1 launch party: cab4me

Last night was the T-Mobile G1 launch event in New York City. Gadgetell was there to see what was new in the Android world. The event itself was set in a club with a live band; it was very different from the product unveiling last month. What did they have there? Plenty of stuff, so check back during the day for more including videos. First off, let’s take a look at an application called “cab4me.”

cab4me

This application was not finished yet, but it made a lot of sense. cab4me is an application that uses the G1′s location awareness to find you and then find you a cab. It’s a really simple idea and if it works will definitely be incredibly helpful when you’ve partied too hard or just need to get somewhere.

Find out more about the app after the break.

UPDATE: G1 pre-order sale ends, no more G1′s for now

T-Mobile’s new Android phone, the G1, was available for pre-order after it had been announced. Three days later, T-Mobile has announced that there aren’t any more G1′s left in stock, and thus, the pre-order craze ends. In fact, so many people wanted to pre-order a G1, that T-Mobile’s site went down for a few hours.

Google: Android will run circles around iPhone

Dear mobile developers,I know you are really excited about the iPhone SDK. It is a lot of fun and the idea of bringing home 70% of your labor is appealing. But don’t forget about Android. Please. Android is going to be huge, huge I tell you. We’ll be doing so many fun things with Android phones you won’t believe it. Advanced functions like cut&paste or MMS. It is going to be huge. Please think about us, cause we think about you, like every day. Sometimes we’ll pick up flowers and ask it if you love us. Sometimes the answer is no.
