LG Viewty II is coming
I wouldn’t mind trying out one of these babies. It looks sweet. LG’s official German blog confirmed today** the first official info on the Viewty II, which also apparently now goes by the Viewty Smart.
So what do we have? The GC900 (the official model number) is less than a half inch thick, and weighs in at only 3.17 ounces. The screen is decent sized at a 3 inch WVGA for your viewing pleasure, with a touchscreen display. The phone uses LG’s 3D S-Class User Interface, and will offer what the manufacturer informs us to be “personalization options that will be taken to a new level here.” Guess we will have to wait and see just what that means.
The 8 megapixel camera (Schneider-Kreuznach) with a (purported) Xenon flash (although it looks a tad small to be a Xenon) is obviously the big draw for this phone. It also features an on-screen slider key which allows switching back and forth between still images and video (720 x 480 pixel resolution). You’ve also got geotagging GPS for fun with all those photos.
The Viewty II (or Viewty Smart–take your pick) has 32 GB of storage, DivX playback, Quad-band GSM, HSPA, and Wi-Fi. And by the way, some of the pictures floating around out there have the Orange logo on them, so it looks like they are probably a carrier.
So, while it is a little weird that the company popped some information on their blog page and then pulled it the same day…apparently it was a bit of a “oops, that wasn’t supposed to be announced yet” sort of thing, since now they are saying that more info will be coming soon.
No word on availability or pricing yet, but keep it here for more details as they come in.
** The blog apparently confirmed, then pulled the confirmation a few hours later.
Hit the break for more photos of this sweet thang.

Samsung rolls out new OMNIA phone to the Korean market
Samsung is treating our friends from Korea with the release of a new version of the Samsung OMNIA called the Samsung T*OMNIA. But aside from modifying the name of the phone, Samsung is also introducing three new features which we didn’t see with the internationally released Samsung OMNIA.
These new features include a larger 3.3-inch screen, a higher screen resolution up from 240×400 of the OMNIA to 480×800 and a DMB TV Tuner or what is more commonly known as a digital TV Tuner. The last feature will allow our Korean friends to have mobile TV and quick Internet access on the T*OMNIA phone. More details after the break.

HP annouces two RIM turf-stealing phones
HP phones are all business, and the latest announcement from them shows us they will stay with that focus. While both are based on Windows Mobile 6.1 and feature a new optical gliding navigation (one upping the BB Pearl) the two phones take different form factors. Both are geared for Europe and are available without a SIM card or as part of a Vodafone package.
The two phones, the Voice Messenger, a candybar style and the Data Messenger, a horizontal slider with full QWERTY keypad look fantastic as compared to other iPaqs. Style has finally infiltrated HP and hopes are high they’ll bring this sense to the US market. Both phones feature Wi-Fi, HSDPA, AGPS and 3.1 megapixel camera with flash.
Check out more of these uncharacteristically stylish gems.
RIM launching a revamped Bold/Storm in 2009
I’m not kidding. Yes, I realize you are still waiting for the originals, and now you hear news of new and upgraded versions. Apparently, there is going to be an announcement of a Storm-like device at WES 2009. Granted, RIM doesn’t exactly have the best track record when it comes to launch dates, so you may want to take that one with a grain of salt. So much more after the break.
United Kingdom to receive highly anticipated G1 on October 30
Here in the States, we can’t wait until T-Mobile officially releases their G1 powered by Google’s Android. Already, 1.5 million Americans placed their order for the new phone, and very few have ever seen how Android works. This number will probably jump way up once it is released, but already you can see how popular it is, and I expect something similar to happen in the UK.
Within a short 15 days, those who live in the UK can get their hands on T-Mobile’s G1. Now, the G1 will be available for free if you decide to get the “Combi” plan or the “Flext” plan, which both cost 40 Euros per month. Also, both of these plans come with unlimited Internet usage, and varying amounts of minutes and texts. The UK version of the G1 will come in both black and white, bundled with a 2GB microSD card, and uses UK’s HSUPA network, similar to United States’ HSDPA.

Samsung Rugby: Never has being unsexy been quite so hot
I’m too sexy for my phone, too sexy for my phone… Well, that just may be what users of the new un-sexy Samsung Rugby may be singing. But, too sexy for their phone or not, their phone will probably have no problem being able to hold up their end of the relationship.
The recently released Rugby, with its clamshell handset, is the first military-spec phone from AT&T. It complies with Military Standard MI-SID-810F (dust, shock vibration, rain, humidity and solar radiation proof, as well as the ability to hold its own at altitude and temperature extremes). It comes equipped with Push-to-talk, an Integrated aGPS, Quad-band UMTS and HSDPA, Bluetooth connectivity, One-way Video Share calling, a 2″ display, 1.3 megapixel camera, and 128MB internal memory.
Feedback I’ve found out there by actual users of the phone has been pretty positive so far.
Nokia N79, N85 get their NAM versions
So it looks like our friends from the UK are not the only ones getting the two new N-Series phones – the N79 and N85. Nokia has also announced the North American versions of these two powerful mobile handsets, and while the UK versions of the N79 and N85 are more than likely to start hitting the stores this month, US stores will start getting both sometime in October.
Anyway, in addition to the features that we already know about the N85 such as a 5-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, a 2.6-inch AMOLED display, GPS navigation, geotagging support and 28 hours of audio playback, we also know now that the N85 will support N-Gage gaming, high-speed HSDPA connectivity as well have Wi-Fi capability and a built-in FM transmitter.
T-Mobile adds the 3g-capable Sony Ericsson TM506
T-Mobile has just officially announced the 3G-capable Sony Ericsson TM506. Overall its a nice looking handset with a slim compact design, however it has one important item to point out, this is T-Mobile’s first HSDPA handset.
The Sony Ericsson TM506 has a clamshell design and features built-in GPS with TeleNav support, a Memory Stick Micro (M2) card slot, a 2-megapixel camera and stereo Bluetooth. In addition the handset also features both an internal display along with an external display that shows the time as well as caller ID.
T-Mobile customers will have to wait just a little longer to grab one of their own however, according to the press release it will be available in early-September at “select T-Mobile retail stores and online.” Still unknown is just how much the TM506 will set you back. Keep reading to check out a few more images of the TM506…
