Agora: the other Android phone
A company I’ve never heard of, Kogan, is introducing the second Android phone on January 29th, 2009 in Australia.
Named the “Agora,” there will be two versions. The “Agora” is priced at $299. The “Agora Pro” is priced at $399. The big difference between the two seems to be GPS which is available only on the Pro.
The device features more of a BlackBerry-like form factor with a QWERTY keyboard below the 2.5-inch touch screen. We’ve covered the Android software extensively, so we know what to expect from the OS.
More details and a size comparison of the Agora, the iPhone, and the G1 after the break.

HTC claims to sell 600,000 G1s by end of 2008
Predicting how many individual units of a device will be sold is difficult. However, many companies usually predict the amount based on how the product is doing, then they announce that number to the public. Usually, that number is somewhat low so when and if that company beats the predicted number, it makes them look good. If they sold less than the predicted number than it looks pretty bad. Recently, HTC’s CEO Peter Chou came out with a number of G1′s he expects to be sold by the end of the year – 600,000.
In an interview with MercuryNews, Chou released this number as well as what he predicts to happen with the G1 in 2009. HTC is renowned for their smartphones using Windows Mobile, however, with the G1, they opted in using Google’s platform, Android. Keep reading to see why HTC picked Android over Windows Mobile.

A few lucky customers get their hands on the G1
As with many gadgets that are supposed to be released on a specific release date, it is possible to get them ahead of time. Such is the case with T-Mobile’s highly anticipated G1. We’ve known for about a month now that T-Mobile would make their G1 phone available on October 22. Also, they said they would be taking pre-orders, but those who pre-order would also receive their phone on the 22nd of October.
However, a few customers who pre-ordered their G1′s have been lucky enough to receive their unit ahead of time.
Google Android app: Seismograph
While at the T-Mobile launch party the other night, someone showed off a little app called Seismograph. What is it? Shake the phone and watch your movements graphed for you. That’s it. No more, no less.
Seismograph is one of those “because we can” applications that uses the G1′s accelerometer. What else could you do with this app? Plenty of ideas and a video after the break.
