Lenovo claims to have the “world’s smallest desktop PC” with the Q180
Lenovo is claiming to have the title of “world’s smallest desktop PC” with its new IdeaCentre Q180. While the claim may just be Lenovo’s boasting, the Q180 is certainly a small PC standing at just about the size of a DVD case. The Lenovo IdeaCentre Q180 can be so small because it’s really a nettop: more »
Adesso introduces mini keyboard perfect for your living room
Putting a computer in your living room is simple. Plenty of televisions have DVI or VGA inputs. However, there’s always one hurdle. The living room keyboard and mouse solution. Adesso introduced its WKB-3100 (a catchy name that I’m sure will be stuck in your head for years to come) which is actually a tiny wireless more »
HTPC in an end table
The Ikea Hacker blog, which captures the joy of folks who love to “hack” Ikea furniture and accessories to make their own unique items, has an interesting on involving a simple end table and a PC. It seems the tables owner wanted a PC in their living room to use as a media center but didn’t want anything conspicious or taking up room so he built it into the end table! Here are the specs:
- AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2GHz Socket AM2
- Asus M2NPV-VM, nForce430+GeForce 6150
- TwinMOS DDR2 PC4200 1024MB
- NorthQ 4775-400, ATX 400W Silent
- Xbox 360 Controllers
It’s a cool hack-if you didn’t know it had a computer in you’d never be able to tell. Very nice job! Computers have gotten more and more integrated into home entertainment centers. TiVo is just a very pretty Linux machine; the Xbox 360 and the PS3 really are just computers in console clothing. The home theater PC still has not made it to the mainstream. Microsoft has tried with its Media Center, but people generally are wary about hooking up a computer to their television. Apple has tried to sneak in its Apple TV into your living room and has not had tremendous success, either.
Eee box gains home theater features
With the impending release of the Eee Top, its easy to forget about Asus’s other Eee desktop offer, the Eee Box. It carries about the same specs as the Eee PC, but the case is built as a standard computer, about the size of an tv. Actually, with the new features that are being added to the Eee box, it is likely to replace the tv you may or may not have.
The new updates to the Eee box will essentially turn it into a home theater machine that can double as a PC, or the other way around. The new features will come in two new models, the B204 and B206. Possibly the biggest feature for the models is the inclusion of a Radeon HD 3400 GPU rather than simple integrated graphics. Continued after the break.
