RIM gets sued over BBM trademark
RIM is facing another potential roadblock that could seriously hurt the BlackBerry brand. The company is being sued by a Canadian company named BBM Canada. BBM Canada describes itself as a company that provides “broadcast measurement and consumer behaviour data, as well as industry-leading intelligence to broadcasters, advertisers and agencies.”
Asus involved in trademark lawsuit over the Transformer Prime
I suppose it’s not too big of a surprise to learn Asus has found itself on the receiving end of a lawsuit for naming its upcoming tablet the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime. Hasbro, the company that makes the Transformer line of toys, filed the lawsuit in a Los Angeles court recently claiming Asus has infringed upon its intellectual property. Hasbro wants Asus to pay an undisclosed amount in damages, and wants to court to issue an injunction that will stop the sale of the Eee Pad Transformer Prime.
Unsatisfied with free apps, BlackBerry customers hit RIM with class action suit
In the middle of October, BlackBerry users around the world started getting hit with service outages. Customers in the United States, Africa, the Middle East, Canada and other countries were without BlackBerry Messenger, email or the internet in general for a few days. RIM tried to make up for the outage by offering a suite of free apps that it estimates carries a value of over $100, and free technical support. That olive branch is not being accepted by the Consumer Law Group. The group has filed a class action lawsuit against RIM on behalf of Canadian BlackBerry smartphone owners.
Chicago company sues Facebook over the term “Timelines”
Facebook recently announced a sweeping change to profile pages with a new interface called Timeline. Timeline takes everything you and your friends have posted on your page and groups them in chronological order. Users can also choose to highlight certain posts to make them expand across the page. Timeline will be released to everyone on Facebook in a couple weeks, but it’s finding itself in the middle of a lawsuit right now. A company called Timelines Inc. is suing Facebook because it claims Facebook’s use of the word “Timeline” could put the company out of business.
Cellular South throws another lawsuit on AT&T’s plate
In these times, we can be sure of two things – iPhone rumors and AT&T lawsuits. Cellular South, a regional wireless carrier based out of Mississippi, has filed an antitrust lawsuit against AT&T in an effort to block its merger with T-Mobile. Cellular South shares the same vision of a grim AT&T and Verizon-dominated future. It believes the merger will “result in consumers facing higher prices, less innovation, fewer choices and reduced competition.”
AT&T gets more merger opposition from state attorneys general
Sprint received some good news today that doubles as bad news for AT&T. Seven state attorneys general from California, Massachusetts, New York, Illinois, Washington and Pennsylvania have come out against the AT&T, T-Mobile merger. The states stand in support of the United States Department of Justice’s lawsuit that hopes to block the merger based on antitrust laws.
HP sued for misleading investors
HP’s grand decisions of late has landed it a class action lawsuit. The suit is being led by HP shareholder Richard Gammel who accuses HP’s executives of leading investors to believe the company was confident in its business decisions more than it actually was. As a result, Gammel claims HP’s stock was wrongfully inflated. Gammel is seeking an untold amount for anyone who purchased shares in HP between November 22, 2010 and August 18, 2011.
AT&T responds to Sprint lawsuit, calls them selfish
On early Tuesday afternoon, Sprint announced it filed a lawsuit in the District of Columbia to block the proposed merger of AT&T and T-Mobile. Sprint has always been thoroughly against the merger and has made its stance clear many times in the media. On Tuesday afternoon, AT&T responded to Sprint’s actions.
