In the past CES has been home to a great many large TVs. Last year the race to be the biggest was offset by the race to get the best 3D. Now Samsung is hoping that having the biggest 3DTV will mean something. Well, maybe not the biggest 3d TV but the biggest 3DTV backed more »

BenQ launches world’s slimmest LED monitor

BenQ’s V2220 21.5″ LED LCD monitor seems to have bagged many world titles, from the “world’s slimmest” to the “world’s highest dynamic contrast ratio.” Boasting a thinness of only 15mm, the monitor is also very green. Forget about CFL bulbs, Philips shows off greener LED bulbs

Just coming off of Earth Day in April, most of us are looking for ways to be greener and changing the lighting in our homes is just one of those ways. This past week, NYC was home to Lightfair International 2009, which is the largest lighting trade show and conference in the world. One of the exhibitors at Lightfair, Philips, unveiled some new ideas about “green” lighting that may soon find their way into our homes.

What the Future Holds: Flexible OLED will change everything

Back at CES, Sony showed off a flexible 2.5-inch OLED screen. Sir Howard Stringer joked that Jay-Z isn’t the only one who could squeeze Beyonce as he flexed the display while it played a Beyonce music video. But what exactly is this technology for? It seems like a cool concept, but what practical applications do flexible OLED screens have? Let’s take a look into the future.

CES 2009 Preview: Samsung previews thinnest TV ever

Despite problems with upper management this past summer, Samsung, the South Korean consumer electronics giant, claims they have released the slimmest LCD television the world has ever seen. It’s even thinner than their “Bordeaux 850” that is currently the thinnest on the market.

Measuring a mere 6.5 millimeters (0.26 inch) thick, this TV is what sci-fi has said all along would eventually come around. This new television is a seventh of the thickness of the slimmest television currently on the market (also made by Samsung).

Nintendo DS taps into e-reader market

One of the growing markets within the tech world at the moment is the e-reader, a futuristic answer to the book. Lots of manufacturers are getting in on the act following in the footsteps of the Amazon Kindle and the Sony Readers, it was only a matter of time till portable consoles caught up with this trend. It would appear that Nintendo is ready to go the e-reader route with their first eBook software allowing you read books on your DS.

The DS would seem like a good solution: it is small, it has a touch screen, it can connect to the Internet and many people have them which translates to a large user base.

JVC is bringing HD to Times Square

Its been a while since I’ve been to Times Square, I can’t even draw an image of it in my mind. It just tends to blend in with the rest of New York City for me. Almost commonplace in a way. Now at least there’s something brand new to catch my attention. JVC has announced that it will be bringing the first ever HDTV to the New York City landmark.

The screen will display at 720p and be powered by LEDs (1,266,400 of them to be exact). There is no mention of a contrast ratio, but with a size of 19′ by 34′, I doubt many people will be looking for that sort of thing. The screen will hang just one story above Times Square at Broadway and 43rd. There will also be a new 71′ LED ticker below the screen, and the JVC globe beneath it will be refurbished for the HD screen’s activation on December 2nd.

Dell to transition all laptops to LED displays by 2010

Two thirds of their Latitude E-series will ship with the new displays by December 15th, and they plan to have 80% of their laptops include the new LED backlights. The transition is expected to be completed by 2010.

With all the latest changes to weight restrictions on baggage by practically all of the airlines, more and more travelers find themselves trying to figure out if their stuffed suitcase is going to make that new 50-pound limit or be slapped with a whopping $125 (or more!) surcharge. Well, you could try to stand on more »
