Borders sends out a goodbye email as liquidation starts

Today is when Borders starts it’s liquidation sales, but not before sending out an email to customers explaining what happened. It’s easy to poke fun at the bookstore for not being able to keep up, but the email that was sent out was actually pretty sad, and sounds heartfelt. In the email Borders explains everything more »

Kobo purchasers won’t be affected by Borders closing

It was revealed yesterday that Borders will be closing soon. As soon as this Friday, many of its locations around the United States may begin liquidation sales. Though Borders failed to make a noticeable impression in the eBook market, it does own a minority stake in Kobo. Kobo wants its customers to know that despite Borders, their book purchases on Kobo devices aren’t in any danger.

Borders to close down by the end of September

The journey is over for Borders. The company failed to find a buyer and will cease to exist in about two month’s time. All of Borders’ 399 stores will close down. Waldenbooks locations are also expected to close. Liquidation for Borders stores could begin as early as Friday.

Circuit City liquidation sales surpass expectations

It seems as though you have to go out of business these days to make any money. The companies hired to liquidate Circuit City’s remaining stock announced today that sales have reached an astounding $450 million over the past two weeks. They expect that the liquidation sales will end sooner than expected due to the astounding number of shoppers that have turned up to snatch up their discounted electronics.

Black Saturday at Circuit City locations

As soon as news hit that Circuit City would be holding liquidation sales at its remaining US locations, buyers began to line up around the block in hopes of scoring the best deals. Liquidation companies came in and started dramatically slashing prices in order to make the most bank off of whatever stock is left.

The lines were long at most locations on Saturday, reports stating that many were 100 people or more deep. Televisions, video games and other electronics have started with a 10 percent discount while other merchandise, like furniture, cables, and accessories carried discounts of 20 and 30 percent off. Many branded items, like Apple iPods have yet to receive a discounted price. When the final numbers for Saturday came in, sales were up 25 percent for the retailer.

“Set your guns to liquidate” – Circuit City

Circuit City officially announced today that they are moving to request the court’s permission to liquidate. The company was still employing over 30,000 in the US and hopefully, many of them saw the writing on the wall. Today’s announcement isn’t that much of a surprise.

The company filed for bankruptcy protection back in November of last year. In December, the company listed 567 stores in the US and if I am reading this right 765 stores and dealer outlets in Canada. Does Canada even have 765 people? Do each need their own big box store? I think I’ve located Circuit City’s folly.

Circuit City Update: Company up for sale, possible liquidation after Jan. 16

The bricks and mortar retail giant that once was – Circuit City – announced Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection back in November. Now, the company has issued an update stating that they are putting themselves up for sale as a “going concern” – meaning the company will continue to operate as a business entity but is more »

CompUSA liquidation schedule leaked

Just last week we saw the announcement about CompUSA closing their doors and now they have a “tentative” schedule for liquidation that has been leaked. The schedule was leaked to The Consumerist by a CompUSA repair tech, who we can only imagine was bitter about his upcoming lack of employment. According to the tech that more »
