T-Mobile officially announces the 3G-equipped Sidekick LX

In an announcement that comes with very little surprise, T-Mobile has officially unveiled the latest Sidekick — the LX. Of course, we have already seen a Sidekick LX, but to differentiate, this is the Sidekick LX 2009 and it is also noted for being the first Sidekick to have 3G support. Overall the design of the new Sidekick is similar to the previous models in that it has the flip out screen with hidden QWERTY keyboard, however it does have an overall sleeker appearance. Just for reference, the Sidekick LX 2009 measures in at 5.2 x 2.4 x 0.64-inches and weighs in at 5.82-ounces.

To begin with, the Sidekick LX 2009 features a 3.2-inch display with an 854 x 480 resolution, built-in GPS, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, a 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash and it also ships with a 1GB microSD card. Additionally, the new Sidekick also features Twitter integration along with improved support for Facebook and MySpace. Overall, the Sidekick still remains tightly integrated with social media, which includes the ability to record, play and share videos on sites such as MySpace and YouTube. Additionally, T-Mobile also plans to offer Exchange Active Sync support however that will not be available at the time of launch. According to T-Mobile customers will be able to download that support “shortly following” the launch.

The Sidekick LX 2009 will be available in either Carbon or Orchid and will set you back $199 which comes along with the standard two-year agreement and after a mail-in-rebate. Customers can begin pre-ordering the device as of today (April 17) with regular availability beginning on May 13.

Sidekick 2009; more leaked, but still rumored details emerge

The latest details surrounding the upcoming launch of the Sidekick 2009 are still falling in the rumor category, however they do seem to hold a little bit of truth. As for the launch, so far we have seen some good stuff coming through, but there still are a few key items missing. To begin with, the latest rumor is calling for the Sidekick 2009 to launch on April 1, 2009, which would be during CTIA.

As far as the truth to that date, like I mentioned it is just a rumor at this point, however there is a possibility. We have seen online reports that there are users in the wild that are already testing the device, we have even recently seen that leaked image proving it. That seems to fit with the time lime for an April 1 release, however, on the flip side, we still have not seen that required FCC listing just yet. This seems to be a little bit of good and bad for an April 1 release, but as always time will tell.

Sidekick Blade gets pictured in the wild

Despite the fact that the upcoming Sidekick is often being referred to as both the Sidekick 2009 and also by the codename of Blade, that does not seem to have stopped someone from leaking a nice, and surprisingly not very blurry image. Although, not a big difference in style, the Blade does seem to be more »

Upcoming Sidekick rumored to be the Sidekick Blade, running NetBSD

An official announcement has yet to come, but details of the next Sidekick are beginning to leak out. While these details are still unofficial, they are coming courtesy of a Microsoft job posting and a recent survey.

So far, what we can tell you is that it looks like the upcoming Sidekick, the LX 2009 will be dubbed the Blade and feature a 3.2-inch WVGA display, a microSD card slot, 3.2-megapixel camera and come with a slew of pre-installed social networking and blogging applications. As for the social networking apps, those look to include Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and YouTube. The blogging side includes a publishing, editing, and management tool as well as photo uploading to Photobucket and video uploading to both MySpace and Photobucket.

Sidekick LX update coming on June 25

While the official announcement of the Tony Hawk branded Sidekick LX showed us a neat new limited edition model, it also gave up some details on just what every other current Sidekick LX users had to look forward to, most notably the soon-to-come video capture support.

Well the good news is that the update will begin to roll out in a little over a week from now. Coming in the form of an over-the-air update it is scheduled to begin on June 25 and will be rolling out, as opposed to hitting everyone at the same time. Which means that in the past it has taken upwards of 4 weeks to reach everyone, so while the update is well worth the wait, try and be patient if yours does not arrive on the first day.

Aside from the video capture support, there is a whole slew of other features which include the ability to send or receive photos, videos, or music via Bluetooth, QuickFind, and no more restarting after a download. Keep reading to check out the full list below.

Tony Hawk branded Sidekick revealed, official announcement coming today?

New screenshot, details about the upcoming Sidekick Gekko/Aspen

So, what do we have here? An “exclusive screenshot” of the rumored new Sidekick Aspen/Gekko mobile device courtesy of Hiptop3. But don’t get too excited folks, we have yet to hear an official word on the accuracy, which means we may be looking at a real screenshot or just a product of some imaginative minds with excellent photo editing skills. But it’s nice to speculate and to get excited over something as good looking as this screenshot of the Sidekick Gekko/Aspen.

Sidekick update? Video, YouTube?

According to hiptop3, where I get all my Sidekick news, an over-the-air update is coming to the Sidekick LX that will open up video playing capabilities. Heck yeah! But the bigger question still looms, will it play with YouTube? The answer seems clouded now, much like the mighty magic 8-ball. Will it be just music more »
