The Kindle Fire won’t trap you in Amazon’s ecosystem

When Barnes & Noble announced the Nook Tablet this week, it made sure to let the public know it’s more than a colorized e-reader. Apps such as Netflix, Pandora and Hulu will be available on the Nook Tablet to make up B&N not selling movies and music itself. Amazon on the other hand has its own MP3 and video store. The impression is if you get a Kindle Fire, you’ll be forced to go through Amazon if you want the best media content. Well that’s not the case. Just like the Nook Tablet, the Kindle Fire will fully support third-party apps that don’t require tapping in to your Amazon account.

Netflix website gets redesigned

When you stroll over to the Netflix website, you’ll notice that it has undergone a bit of a change. The new Netflix interface was designed to put more attention on Netflix’s Watch Instantly options for movies and television shows. If you want to see the old Netflix interface, you can only see it in the “Browse DVDs” portion of the site.

Rumor: Samsung developing Amazon tablet

A report from gdgt states that Amazon is going to release its own tablet. Though no major hardware details have been revealed (either officially or otherwise), gdgt’s Peter Rojas says he’s “99% certain” that tablet is being made by Samsung. If true, this tablet has a wonderful opportunity to gain a fair share of the ever-expanding tablet market. Amazon has the name, the retail expertise and the cash to make its tablet very competitive.
