Hands on with the HP Mini-Note Vivienne Tam Edition
Walking through the show floor today, we made a quick pit stop into the HP booth to get some hands-on time and check out the HP Vivienne Tam Edition Mini-Note, and one thing we can say for sure is that it is shiny. Aside from the high-gloss that seems to be a magnet for finger more »
Hands on with the HP Mini-Note 2140
Walking the show floor tonight at Digital Experience we were able to chat with a rep from HP and get some hands-on time with the new HP Mini-Note 2140. The 2140 is the follow up to the existing Mini-Note 2133 and seems to have improved on anything that was lacking on the 2133, while keeping more »
Will your netbook handle OS X? This compatibility chart should help
If you have read any of my previous posts, it should come as little surprise that I am a big fan of netbooks, however given our sister site Appletell does such a great job with the Mac coverage, I do not often get to cover another favorite of mine — OS X. So with that, it is safe to assume that I would be more than willing to pick up an official Apple netbook, should one be announced. Continued.
Until then, I plan to hold off running OS X on a netbook, despite how tempting it is. Of course if you are not as willing to wait as I am, then a new compatibility chart should help you out when it comes to choosing a netbook to work with. Short story, if you are considering going this route then you may want to pick up an MSI Wind, Dell Inspiron Mini 9 or an HP Mini-Note 2133. Other models do and will work, but each will be missing some functionality. Surprisingly one of the more popular models, the Eee PC 9xx and 1000 series lack support for both audio and ethernet.
HP offers up the Mini 1000 netbook
HP has officially unveiled the Mini 1000 netbook, which serves as a follow up to the Mini-Note 2133. And a nice follow up it seems to be, based on the specs and available options for the Mini 1000 it seems HP has taken some of the disappointing factors from their original 2133 netbook and made some notable improvements.
To begin with, the Mini 1000 will eventually be available in three models: you have the Windows XP based model that will start at $399, the Ubuntu-based Mobile Internet Experience (“MIE”) model that will start at $379, and the limited edition Vivian Tam model which will start at $699. As of now, the Windows XP model is available for purchase, while the MIE model is expected in early January. The limited edition Vivian Tam model will be available “in time for the holidays.”

HP drops the low-end Mini-Note pricing, now starting at $399
Perhaps HP is making an effort to clear some inventory in preparation for a refresh of the Mini-Note or maybe they are just looking to offer a little more competition in the netbook market. Either way, it seems it will be the consumer who will be the winner because they have just announced a new, lower price on the low-end Mini-Note models.
The Mini-Note pricing will now begin at just $399, which will give you a very capable netbook running SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 and features a 1.0GHz Via C7 processor, 8.9-inch display, 512MB of RAM, a 4GB SSD, VGA camera and a 3-cell battery. Interested in what else HP’s got? Keep reading.
HP looking to follow up the Mini-Note with a “low-cost” version
It’s looking like a slight bit of admittance of defeat coming from HP in regards to their Mini-Note, according to some recent statements from Jerel Chong, HP Australia’s Market Development Manager for Notebook PCs they are looking to follow up the 2133 Mini-Note with a lower priced model.
“From a retail perspective we’re looking at a similar device (to the 2133) but at a lower cost”

HP Mini-Note gets a performance boost courtesy of new VIA drivers
HP Mini-Note users listen up, VIA has just released an updated set of drivers that seem to be well worth the time it will take to complete the update. Now don’t get me wrong this update is not going to completely change your trusty little notebook, but the update has been noted as offering improved video playback, which for a lot of people has been a major issue.
According to the benchmarks from the folks over at HP 2133 Guide, they are claiming that the “video playback was improved quite a bit on each OS.” They ran the benchmarks on a Windows XP (with SP3) and Windows Vista (with SP1) based Mini-Note that featured a 1.6Ghz VIA C7-M processor, 2GB of RAM, and the standard 120GB 7200 RPM hard drive.
HP announces Mini-Note battery availability
Coming a little over a month after the notebook was released, HP has finally made the spare batteries for the Mini-Note 2133 available for purchase by themselves. It looks like the 6-cell battery is retailing for $129 and currently available for order. The 3-cell, although it has been reported to be priced at $207 could more »
Asus plans to sell 5 million Eee PC’s this year
Asus may be a little optimistic, or maybe just cocky, but they believe that they can make a 1430% increase in sales this year over last year with their Eee PC. Yes, they are predicting that they can make 5 million sales this year, and although it is unclear as to whether this just includes more »
