It was just a few days back that we began seeing some chatter about MMS coming to Google Voice. And well, it looks like Google has returned with an official confirmation, though before everyone gets super excited — that official confirmation is noted as being just a “first step.” Anyway, according to the information coming more »

Google beginning to roll-out MMS support for Google Voice?

One of the big complaints that we see from people curious about (or already using) Google Voice is the lack of support for MMS messaging. And well, it looks like Google is beginning to roll-out some support for just that. Though, before you get super excited, that support may not be coming quite as expected. more »

With the opening of the Palo Alto AT&T Foundry the carrier is showing off an idea that could make conversations easier. AT&T to begin requiring messaging plans with select feature phones

Assuming we can believe that this AT&T flyer is the real deal, then it looks like AT&T is going to begin requiring owners of select feature phones to have a messaging plan. The phones have been dubbed as “Quick Messaging” phones and will include the Pantech Reveal, Pantech Impact, Motorola Karma, Samsung Flight, Samsung Impression, more »

Shields Up!: Cybecrime and security in the news

There have been quite a few security issues in the news this past week. Let’s take a look at some of the top stories: Hackers wasted no time in exploiting the release of the much anticipated MMS functionality for the iPhone. When Apple first announced the iPhone 3.0 upgrade and later when it debuted the iPhone 3GS it was happy to tout the new MMS features. It seems the folks at Facebook have heard your cry because now they’ve opened up a new route for you to post your images. Why the iPhone needs to get off AT&T and TomTom lied

With the many announcements that took place today at WWDC, I’m pretty shocked about the whole tethering, MMS, and TomTom thing. First of all, really AT&T? You are going to wait until late Summer to unveil MMS? A feature that many cell phones, including Palm Pre already feature? That’s just a slap in a face more »

New messaging service makes cell phones more useful

By now, we’re all pretty much aware of SMS and MMS messages. We’re also probably aware of the drawbacks, such as the fact that you can never be sure that the person is going to actually respond to the text message. A new system is on its way that will solve the eternal question of “will they ever return my text, or are they too busy playing WoW to care?” as well as a few others.

The new system is called Mobile Enhanced Messaging is the next logical step in phone messaging from the text/picture/video messaging side. The most important feature is that you can have a conversation with more than two people, so there’s no more asking a bunch of people what they want in a single message, and relating each person’s response. The conversations can be through text, images, video, audio, and “other future content” which I assume must mean holograms.

T-Mobile raising text messaging rates, again

T-Mobile has just announced that as of August 29 the rates for text and picture messages will be going up. With a nice increase, the per message rate will now be the same as most other major carriers as it is going from 15 cents up to 20 cents. These new message rate will apply more »
