Starz wanted you to pay more for Netflix

Yesterday, Starz announced it would not be renewing its contract with Netflix that’s set to expire on February 28, 2012. From that date forward, Starz content in addition to movies from Disney and Sony will no longer be offered for instant streaming. Chinese search engine trouble after medical P4P

The massive Chinese search engine Baidu is in trouble after state media uncovered that unlicensed medical services are buying good positions on the page through their P4P (pay-for-performance) scheme. This is a problem as more people then click through to their website and the pay for very expensive and totally useless treatment.

This inevitably leads to more cases of dangerous, and sometimes lethal, disregard of safety and expertise meaning that many operations are useless, expensive, and health-threatening. Examples include a man being charged $1,500 for an operations that didn’t do anything, when he could have paid $15 for effective treatment at a public hospital.

Panasonic confirms Sanyo takeover

Panasonic is already a sizable company, but they are going to get that little bit bigger with the confirmed takeover of Sanyo. Sanyo have been struggling recently, and it’s probably not a coincidence that their downturn coincides with the economic crisis that we are facing. Nevertheless, they are still worth a substantial $18.5 billion which will boost Panasonic’s value to around $107.8 billion, making it one of the biggest consumer electronics companies.

The reason behind this is that this takeover will give Panasonic access to two key technologies in the shape of solar panels and batteries which will help them greatly in their own hand-held electronic products, in fact, Sanyo is the market leader in the manufacture of rechargeable batteries. They will also acquire a company specializing in portable gadgets which generates $4 billion per annum in revenue. Continued after the break.

TripAdvisor, one of the biggest travel guide websites on the world wide web, has come up with an interesting idea to give back to the community. It will come in a shape of a big donation and will be given to a worthy cause.

The best part is that you can vote where the money goes to. There are 5 options: Conservation International, Doctors Without Borders, National Geographic Society, The Nature Conservancy, and Save the Children. You’ve got until the 12th of November to vote on the organization that should receive $1M.
