Gadgetell visits with TechVi to talk about the brand new Palm Pixi
Palm announced the brand new webOS-based Palm Pixi today, September 9, 2009. It looks to be the rumored Palm Eos just with a new name. Is this phone anything to get excited about? Gadgetell visited with Randall Bennett to talk it over on TechVi.
Palm introduces Palm Pixi, their thin webOS phone
Palm unveiled a new smartphone today, The Palm Pixi, whose form factor looks like a next generation Treo. The Palm Pixi is a WebOS device like the Pre. It offers a multi-touchscreen, a 2-megapixel camera, built in GPS, and 8GB of memory. It comes with a new Facebook app and will be able to integrate LinkedIn and Yahoo contacts, IM, and calendar in a single view.
“With Palm WebOS, we’re creating a new, more intuitive smartphone experience defined by unmatched simplicity and usefulness,” Jon Rubinstein, Palm chairman and chief executive officer, said in a statement. “Palm Pixi brings this unique experience to a broader range of people who want enhanced messaging and social networking in a design that lets them express their personal style.”
The expected retail price of the Pixi is unknown, but it will launch on Sprint in time for the holidays and bring with it artist designed limited edition replaceable back covers that will allow users to truly personalize their devices.
Palm Pixie/Eos confirmed via leaked webOS ROM
Working off of a leaked copy of the webOS ROM, a few users have discovered some references to a second Palm webOS based device. It was not that long ago we first saw details of the Palm Eos that is rumored to be on its way to AT&T, and this ROM adds some further evidence more »
Gadgetell visits TechVi to talk about Windows 7 and the Palm Eos
TechVi had me on their show as a guest along with Chris Spera from Gear Diary to talk about Microsoft Windows 7 and how its RC will be free for one year and what exactly is the deal with the Palm Eos. The show is hosted by Randall Bennett and we had a great time discussing the latest news.
Paving the way for a Verizon Prenis?
Ninjas? Blurrycam-Man? Renderings? Forget them. I’ve got something better yet: absolute conjecture. Follow me on this.
Palm can feel the garlicy-sweaty breath of death on its back. Survival mode kicks in, like place crash survivors in the Andes. They know who Sprint is and hitched their cart to them for a long six months. Somewhere there is a contract that says, “we grant Sprint the exclusive right to sell the Pre (gotcha!) for a period of six months…”. They did it for Sprint’s advertising dollars as they needed someone to foot that bill.
Then on to prong two of the Palm “3 Ways to Win plan” (also fictional).
Jump back! Palm’s got a second device coming out this year?
My, oh my! Isn’t Palm hitting the the headlines lately? And this time, it doesn’t even have to with the whole “Pre vs. iPhone” hoopla. Instead, it seems that Palm has got another rabbit up their sleeve. A new device?
According to what I hear, they are working on another device that might be coming out as early as this Fall. Now, with a release date just a few months after the Pre, there is obviously no way it’s going to be a next generation device. Nope, this one is supposedly a “mini-Pre”…smaller than the original, and targeting a new crowd.
