Microsoft won’t build phones, except for the ones revealed Monday

Once upon a time, Microsoft battled Blackberry for dominance in the smartphone market. Back then, there phones were inexpensive, received email (most of the time) and if you were patient enough, surfed the mobile web. Today, Microsoft’s Windows Mobile is on the skids and has been for a few years, making only incremental changes. Microsoft more »

Verizon gets Microsoft phone, no one cares

Insiders say Verizon will launch a Microsoft branded phone next month. Code named Pink, the phone is an oddly shaped slider designed by Danger, makers of the popular and sometimes cursed Sidekick for T-Mobile. A year ago the Pink was positioned as an iPhone killer, but then the Droid and Nexus One came around while more »

Gadgetell visits TechVi to talk Windows Mobile 7 and Zune

It is still unclear as to whether or not the Windows Mobile 7 and Zune rumors are true, but that did not stop Iyaz Akhtar, Kevin Tofel of jkOnTheRun.com and myself from trying to make some sense of them today. You can watch the video here, or head on over to Tech Vi where you more »

Who’s on Crack in Tech: 09.25.09

The world of tech is filled of business decisions that could only be fueled by some kind of drug-induced lunacy. This is the column that calls out the companies that might need to hit rehab. Today, we’re looking at you, Palm, Microsoft, Verizon, and Intel.

There was a reason MS didn’t want us to see Pink: it’s ZZZZ…

Yesterday, I got on Microsoft’s case regarding using a stylus as the means to input data in their Courier project. Today, I am still on the job questioning whether Microsoft has gone completely insane or just lost their way. The purported new Pink phones, leaked by Gizmodo, suggest a road map that no one can more »

Microsoft Pink photos leaked online

New photos of the Microsoft Pink phone were leaked and appeared online yesterday on the Gizmodo blog. The design appears similar to the Sidekick with a sliding faceplate covering a full QWERTY keypad. The Pink is expected to have Windows Mobile 7 installed, the new OS that has been yet to be released by Microsoft. more »

Instinct beats iPhone again: first to go Pink and $99

In its battle to stay relevant, Sprint is pitching its Samsung Instinct in a new color and at a new price. The fastest-selling EVDO device in Sprint history recently added support for corporate Exchange to the surprise of many. We were surprised in the fact it wasn’t there at launch.

Within a few days after its release, Instinct became the fastest-selling EVDO handset in Sprint history. Instinct accounted for more than one-fifth of all Sprint handsets being sold during the first two weeks of availability and continued to sell at a record pace through the 2008 holiday season. Instinct users consume data at a rate of approximately five times more than any other Sprint device, especially music and other downloads, text messaging and GPS navigation.

It would be hard for us to believe there will be an “Instinct 2″ or loyal following with this phone, but I am sure there is someone who has been waiting for a pink version of the Sprint touchscreen powerhouse that was pitted against the iPhone in advertisement after advertisement. Anyone out there willing to stand up and tell us how much they love this phone?

Who’s On Crack in tech: Black Friday ’08 edition

This is where we call out the tech moves that seem odd, out of touch or just plain straight up smokin’ crack. This week sees posturing, positioning and flat out insanity.

Here’s what caught my eye this week:

  • Zune Phone inbound?
  • Kindle 2 sucking life out of holiday sales?
  • 7-11′s new video section
  • HDTVs for pennies?

Follow me into the madness.

Pink: Microsoft’s attempt at a phone?

Ever since Microsoft acquired Danger, it was always rumored that Microsoft might, one day, come out with a phone based off of the Zune. What makes this rumor different than previous ones is that CNBC claims that a good Microsoft source is reporting that their newest project, named the Pink, is actually a Zune phone.
