Pick up a Sansa View at a discount

SanDisk is running a promotion lowering prices on its Sansa View. The players come in three different capacities, 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB. You can save $10 on the 8GB model ($139, down from $149). The 16GB model will go for $159.99, down from $179.99. The 32GB version sees a $50 price drop, selling for $199.99.

If you shop around, you can actually get the SanDisk Sansa View 8GB for under $100 at Amazon.com. The Amazon prices for the other two models are higher than SanDisk’s promotional deal. Offer ends Sunday, December 28th, 2009.

Panasonic makes a move for 3D Blu-ray

It is widely known that the future of Blu-ray is in 3D and a feasible idea for this was shown by Panasonic at the CEATEC show in Japan although it was pre-production. However they have now made a bid to be king of this future market with a proposal to the BDA (Blu-ray Disc Association) regarding a way of producing two way (left and right eye) full High Definition discs.

8 GB of music in packaging the size of a matchbox. Go SanDisk.

And with SanDisk, the hits just keep on coming. They have the 1GB, the 2GB, the 4GB Sansa Clips, and now the 8GB flash-based player. It may be teeny-tiny in size, but it certainly isn’t in the capacity of songs this baby can hold. Try up to 4,000 on it’s rechargeable battery which will run for 15 hours. Not bad, eh?

The player obviously gets its name from the clip it sports on the back. It lets users attach it to their clothing, backbacks, etc., which is great for when you are on the go. However, if you want to detach the clip, you have that option as well. Another nice thing about the Sansa Clip is that is has an OLED color screen, which lets you pick which songs you want to listen to; you don’t have to listen at random. More after the break.

Popular Science recognizes we all want to be the DJ

Popular science just awarded Pacemaker, a mp3 player that turns anyone into a DJ, as a “Best of what’s new” winner in the Gadgets category. The device is part of a larger platform that encompasses a user community which provides legal uploading and mix sharing as well as a desktop application.

The Pacemaker at its gadget-y heart is a 120GB mp3 player with display and touchpad. Various inputs allow some crazy stuff, all in a very mobile little unit. The device features multifunction buttons that allow different inputs on the touchpad. I am certain it is easier to use than the diagram which outlines all the functionality shows.

Keep reading to find out some more about the Pacemaker.

So is Blu-ray really dead?

Well, we all knew Steve Jobs’ view of Blu-ray (remember when he described it as a “bag of hurt?”), but it seems he is not the only one who thinks Blu-ray just may be drawing its last dying breaths. Robin Harris proclaims “Blu-ray is dead” and makes some points that might just make some folks sit back and say hmmmmmm.

Granted, it took a while for DVD to make it into mainstream when it was first introduced, like 5 or 6 years, or so. You still had diehards hanging on the their VHS. Heck, I still also own a VHS player. It’s practically a relic. So, you have people arguing, give Blu-Ray a break — it’s only been out a year or so. Continued after the break.

Cambridge Audio joins the Blu-ray club

Cambridge Audio just announced today in Denver that they too will be joining the ever popular Blu-ray club by coming out with their version of Blu-ray technology, the 640BD, in Spring 2009. The player is meant to complement the Azur range of AV receivers, and from the spec sheet/release, it looks like it isn’t too shabbily put together.

The 640BD will have a full set of analog video outputs, full HDMI 1.3 output (which will include bitstream output of all the latest Dolby/DTS tracks), S/PDIF, Ethernet, Toslink and a set of separate, dedicated 7.1/stereo analog outputs. And no…they haven’t put a price tag on this baby yet.
