HP confirms webOS slates and….printers?

When HP won the 5 company bidding war for the rights to Palm, just about every tech blog predicted HP tablets with webOS. Well today, these tech blogs have their answer from the Twitter account @HPNews. In the tweet, “Hurd” (as in HP’s CEO Mark Hurd), announced that webOS will not be limited to phones, more »

Canon has a new compact photo printer at a price to match – just $99

Anyone that knows photography knows the name Canon. So it is only logical that the company that brings us great cameras also brings us printers to print the photos we shoot. Adding to their compact printer line; Canon is introducing the latest in their SELPHY line, the SELPHY CP780.

The CP780 has some nice improvements over its predecessors. Its image quality is better. It’s faster. All nifty perks obviously. It has nice big buttons that you don’t need a doctorate to be able to figure out how it works. It comes with a 2.5-inch LCD display on top so you can see what you are printing. It fixes any nasty red eye automatically.

The printer also features a Portrait Image Optimizer. What this does is uses a Face Detection technology which identifies and optimizes faces and skin tones of subjects. Now, while previous SELPHY models also had this technology, Canon has really tweaked it so that the color correction to try to bring realistic tones and colors.

Kodak’s new all-in-one printers

Kodak has two new All-in-One (AiO) printers, the EasyShare 7 (“ESP7″) and the EasyShare 9 (“ESP9″). The ESP7 and ESP9 showcase Kodak’s promise of the lowest ink replacement cost in the industry. MSRP on black ink is $9.99 and color ink is $14.99. Those prices are pretty reasonable. Other goals for these printers are lab-quality prints and easy to use.

Kodak Reputation Redeemed

Pricing and Fade-Resistance Figured Out

Kodak recently introduced two inkjet printers to their All-in-One lineup: ESP7 and ESP9. The announcement came nearly six months after they released the ESP5.

As a draw-in, Kodak claims these printers give us the lowest ink prices in the industry. This is just like every printer they have ever put out, even going back to the first ones in 2004. Even in 2007, when Kodak put out its first inkjet, they were singing the same song.

Is Kodak bringing printing costs down or not? Keep reading to see what I found out.

Fujifilm’s 3D camera is just the tip of the iceberg

Photographers have been messing around with 3D photography for years. It just hasn’t been a nice and easy, already developed for them, consumer-friendly, point and shoot 3D camera they were using to take the photos. Some photographers were rigging up their own cameras to get the effect, some doing it in post-processing. Some, used much less user-friendly four lens cameras that did exist out there, just not with the best picture quality.

Fujifilm is hoping to remedy all of that with their development of their 3D camera. The way it accomplishes the 3D effect is to use two lenses and two sensors. The lenses are about 6 to 7-cm apart, which is the width between the average person’s eyes. These lenses and sensors take different pictures from different angles simultaneously. Then, it combines the different pictures to create one image that is displayed on the camera’s 2.8-inch, 230,000 pixel LCD screen.

Sick of your printer lying to you? Trick it.

Once again your printer is out of ink way before you think there is any way it should be. Yet somehow, BOOM. It just refuses to print another page until you replace the cartridge. Well, when Farhad Manjoo’s Brother printer suddenly stopped printing; he started to wonder if his printer wasn’t simply lying to him that it was out of toner just so he would buy more before he actually even needed it. His prints hadn’t been fading at all; his printer just suddenly simply refused to keep going without a new cartridge.

Manjoo decided to look to the ‘Net for a way around this. And he indeed found some answers. He learned that by covering up the sides of his toner cartridge with a piece of electrical tape he could “trick” his printer into thinking it was full. He says the printer was been chugging along just fine ever since…eight months and hundreds of pages down the road…printing out perfect pages.

Polaroid coming out with a new instant camera

Believe it or not, I know many die-hard fans of the old Polaroid camera that were sad to see it go. Well, it looks like there just may be some cause for rejoicing if the new survey put out by Polaroid is any indication. They were recently asking for feedback from readers of Amateur Photographer more »

Gadgetell Review: Epson RX595 printer

Epson’s RX 595 all in one printer has it all. It prints, it scans, and can even read memory cards and print directly to CDs.

After opening the box, I quickly set up the printer and scrounged around for a USB A male to USB B male cable (which, unfortunately, was not included with the printer) and popped in the software CD. I was a bit disappointed that my MacBook could not automatically detect and use the printer, but installing the software was for the best. Though this is probably not a universal problem, the unit I received had a problem during its initial setup with paper jams. However, after a few aggravating minutes, the jams stopped and printing was smooth as could be.
