Blackberry PlayBook is for business with professional users in mind

RIM has recently released another PlayBook tablet promo video, and this one puts the focus on business users and apparently ONLY business users. The video comes in at 1 minute and 36 seconds and touts how the PlayBook is for business and more specifically how it was “built for CIOs with CIOs.” Going as far more »

Gadgetell Review: DAS Keyboard Professional

The DAS Keyboard was graciously sent to me to review over the past several weeks and I must say, it is a flashback to the old keyboards we all once used. DAS Keyboard sells 3 models of their signature super-clicky keyboards: Original Professional, Model S Professional, and Model S Ultimate. However they also sell a more »

HP debuts new professional netbook, the Mini 5101

With new netbook announcements slowing down a bit, it’s a lot easier now to stand out as a new netbook than it was a few months ago. With these slower releases we’re starting to see more specialized netbooks targeted at particular markets. The new HP Mini 5101 is a great of example of this.

The 5101 is HP’s new netbook targeted at professionals who want to carry around a small, durable computer. To make the device more durable the 5101 is made of anodized aluminum with a black brushed finish. The bottom and palm rest are finished with magnesium alloy with a rubberized feel that keeps it from slipping out of your hands which can happen on the plastic of other netbooks. The 95 percent sized chiclet-style keyboard is even spill resistant with HP Durakeys to keep them from showing too much wear.

Rumor: Windows 7 pricing to begin at $199

The latest rumor surrounding Windows 7 deals with the pricing, and in this case I am not sure I can believe the numbers. To begin with, they have come courtesy of an “anonymous tip and is not from a trusted source.” Also on top of that, the prices seem to be a little high, especially more »

Microsoft confirms the many flavors of Windows 7

Despite what we hoped in thinking that Microsoft may have learned a lesson with the many available versions for Windows Vista, it seems they are determined to make the same mistake with Windows 7. So, just how many versions are we talking about? Six in total, and if you ask me, that is about three or four more than we need. Of course, it may not be all that terrible considering most consumers will only have to choose between Home Premium, Professional and possibly Starter. All-in-all, here are the versions will see and a little glimpse into what each will offer:

  • Windows 7 Starter: Ability to run three concurrent applications, improved taskbar, JumpLists and the ability to join a Home Group.
  • Windows 7 Home Basic: Available only in emerging markets.
  • Windows 7 Home Premium: Aero Glass, advanced windows navigation, handwriting recognition, multi-touch and Windows Media Center.
  • Windows 7 Professional: Ability to join a managed network, advanced network backup and Location Aware Printing.
  • Windows 7 Enterprise: bitLocker, DirectAccess and AppLocker. Limited to bulk business sales.
  • Windows 7 Ultimate: Includes everything from the lower versions.

Das Keyboard is good, yes?

Recently, a company known as Das Keyboard, who made a name for themselves back in 2005 for introducing completely blank keyboards, introduced two new keyboard models.

The first is the Professional model, which include some terrific gold-plated mechanical key switches. They have also added some new blue LEDs that are “Darth Vader approved.” I took that from the Das Keyboard website, honest.

The Ultimate is, of course, the ultimate. All the keys have that Das Keyboard blank look. That is, all the keys are unlabeled. The company says that it is “easy” for a typist to get used to these blank things.
