Thanks Netflix, you just saved me $2 per month

Sure, its only $2 each month, which in the whole scheme of things is not much for my bottom line at the end of the month. But on the flip side, I suspect Netflix had many customers like myself — subscribers who have/had the $9.99 per month account with unlimited streaming and unlimited (one out more »

Rant: Bloggers, we are better than job posting leads

It is an interesting state of affairs when we bloggers, in our never-ending thirst for more are sifting through job listings to get a lead on what a company is thinking. Forget high priced PR mouthpieces, simply post a free job posting somewhere and one of my cohorts will pick it up within the hour. more »

Think twice before getting your geek a digital picture frame

Digital picture frames. There are no end to them. Around this time, many vendors are pushing the frames as a great geek gift.

I’m a geek, I fell for it, and am now over the idea of digital picture frames. Let’s look at what these things promise. You can view all of your photos in such a small footprint. Get a Wi-Fi enabled one and you can subscribe to RSS feeds of people’s pictures. Some even allow you to do picture correction right from the frame.

Then there’s real life. Keep reading to see where this rant goes.

Same old same old nebooks again

We haven’t heard from Dospara for a while, so perhaps you were wondering what they have been up to. Well don’t worry, they have been doing exactly the same as everybody else: making a netbook.

I’m sure you could recite these specifications blindfolded, but in the interest of comparison I will tell you. It has a 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, a 120GB hard drive, 1GB RAM, 1,024 x 600 screen, 802.11b/g WiFi, Linux and a reasonable battery. To be honest, it is exactly the same as loads of other netbooks, and that is the point that I want to make. More after the break.

Who’s on Crack in tech: 10.17.2008 Edition

This is where we call out by names the actions and companies that seem odd, out of touch or just plain straight up smokin’ crack. Technology is an odd realm where PR speak doesn’t hold a lot of water if the 1s and 0s don’t line up. This week sees posturing, positioning and flat out insanity. Here is what caught my eye this week:

Time for Gadgetell’s “Who’s on Crack” this week game

A fast week already yet, June 9 can’t seem to come fast enough. Lucky for us it just not Apple speculation feeding the pipes this week, oh no! A quick look at the industry shows us just who is on the edge and just who is out there, really out there. Let’s begin, shall we?

For the second game in a row, Microsoft starts us off. Microsoft has the stones to

Nokia lowers, then raises the price on the N810 Internet Tablet

It seems the wonderful $90 price cut that Nokia had offered up on the N810 Internet Tablet was not as permanent as we would have hoped.

The $90 price cut was great to see because that lowered the price from the regular retail of $479 down to $389. Which would be what I would describe as a great deal, but unfortunately the price has since gone back up to $439. Which makes the great $90 price cut a respectable $50 price cut.
