YouTube gets a major redesign

Google continues to redesign everything in its path. Next on the list is YouTube, and chances are the new design has been pushed to you already. This isn’t a mass rollout of the Cosmic Panda experiment that took place some months back. YouTube has gotten a complete facelift that brings the video content you want to see front and center. In some ways, the new YouTube is reminiscent of Facebook in that the most recent activity is in the center of the page, whereas the navigation controls are restricted to the left side of the page.

Google’s black bar is going away in favor of a new drop-down menu

Even though it hasn’t been around for all that long, the black navigation bar that’s on the top of every Google webpage isn’t going to be around for much longer. Google thinks that black bar takes up too much space, so it’s sending it on its way. In its place will be a new Google bar that uses a drop-down menu.

Amazon Appstore updated with new look

Just days before the Kindle Fire arrives in thousands of locations across the United States, Amazon gave its Amazon Appstore for Android a bit of a makeover. The pure white background has been replaced with a dark background, and as far as I can tell, the Appstore has a slightly larger font. The color scheme is persistent throughout the app. You still have access to the top 100 free and paid apps from the homepage.

Redesigned Gmail confirmed to be arriving soon

The leaked video of the new Gmail design has re-emerged today in official form. Google has confirmed a redesign for Gmail today on its blog. The redesign hasn’t gone live yet, but Google will give users the opportunity to switch over within the next few days.

New Gmail design leaked on video

Earlier today, we learned that Google Reader will be redesigned. That announcement came straight from Google. However, Google didn’t plan on revealing the new Gmail so soon. Google mistakenly posted a video detailing the changes that are coming to Gmail on YouTube. The video is no longer available on Google’s YouTube page, but there is a mirror of the video available to view right now.

Google Reader will be redesigned and tied to Google+

In about a week or so, Google Reader will look nothing like it is today. Google will be redesigning Google Reader to bring it in line with its other recently redesigned products such as Google Docs, Google Calender and the Google sign-in page. The final design promises to be a cleaner experience with features that integrate it with Google+.

T-Mobile stores are getting a European redesign

You may want to take a picture of the inside of your local T-Mobile store because it’s about to undergo a major change. Close to 400 of T-Mobile’s stores in the United States are going to be redesigned from top to bottom. There are a couple stores that have already undergone the remodeling, and the rest will get their makeover through the end of 2011.

YouTube for iOS gets a Cosmic Panda makeover

Are you tired of the layout of YouTube’s mobile site on iOS devices? If so, you may be interested in trying out a new visual design that’s currently available for iOS devices. The new YouTube design brings a darker color scheme to the mobile site just like the Cosmic Panda redesign did for desktop browsers.

Pandora launches redesigned site with unlimited music

Pandora is facing mounting competition from rival music services such as MOG and Rdio. Both of the aforementioned services either already has or will have a free subscription option to go along with its paid offerings. One of Pandora’s biggest problems are services that allow users to listen to specific songs and albums on-demand. We’ll see how that further affects Pandora in due time. For now, Pandora has refreshed itself by launching a new HTML5-based web site.
