Free porn is putting a dent in Time Warner’s wallet

Porn is something you wouldn’t think a cable company CEO would talk about. Even though porn brings in a lot of extra dollars, it’s one of those things that is too taboo for a lot of people. Interestingly enough, Time Warner’s CEO Glen Britt mentioned the demand (or lack thereof) for porn when discussing his company’s video on demand service during the companies Q2 2011 earnings conference call.

Twitter’s Promoted Tweets to Followers doesn’t sound so bad

In late June, reports surfaced about Twitters upcoming attempt to boost revenue. The solution was ads, but not just any ads. These advertisements will shuffle their way into your Twitter feed. I know a lot of you hate the idea of ads in your feed, especially since you have to deal with spam tweets already. With it’s overall revenue just under $11 billion, the company saw more »

Sun reports horror story first quarter

Sun Microsystems announced a horrific quarter yesterday — a loss for what is now the third quarter in a row. This past quarter resulted in a net loss of $1.68 billion, with a revenue of $2.99 billion. The same quarter last year had a net income of $89 million, and a $3.22 billion revenue. Ouch, that can’t go over too well.

Sun also hinted at possible layoffs in the future, which, while depressing, isn’t all that surprising given the current state of the economy. There were also reports of slowing sales in its main server lines. It seems open sourcing a number of it’s software hasn’t helped either.
