BlackBerry PlayBook cause RIM to lose money once again

Still, the PlayBook continues to die a slow and expensive death. RIM now has to eat $485 million (or $360 million after taxes) for its fiscal third quarter as a result of not selling as many PlayBooks as it expected.

RIM doesn’t expect to sell as many BlackBerry PlayBooks as it hoped

The bad news streak continues for RIM. The company’s products aren’t doing so well in the United States due to stiff competition from the likes of iOS, Android and Windows Phone 7 devices. BlackBerry smartphones are coming off as relics of a bygone era. The BlackBerry PlayBook definitely had the potential to be one of the top selling tablets in the market, but glaring omissions such as a native email application set the PlayBook way back. Due to falling PlayBook sales, RIM has decreased the number of tablets it expects to sell.
