Oddball Tech: Special all New York edition

There was no plan involved in finding only New York-based odd tech stories. In fact, there is hardly a plan involved regarding oddball stories. This time, New York reached Florida-levels of oddness with Segways, a free video production studio in the city, and what’s the emoticon for faking your own death?

Oddball Tech: P.U.M.A., Google van meets a bridge, and UK Street View driver hates photograper

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the show that never ends. Segway and GM team up to create a new type of vehicle. Trouble with Google Street View on two fronts. First off, Google ignores basic physics and meets a bridge. Second, the driver of a Google Street View car (you know, the one that takes all the pictures for Street View) gets mad because someone takes a picture of him. He screamed “You are stealing my soul!” Okay, he didn’t say that, but he wasn’t happy.

Watch out Segway, here comes the Toyota Winglet!

I really don’t understand why Segways have not caught on yet. Perhaps we are still comfortable with the idea of walking, or we can’t help but think that Segways look too geeky.

Whatever the reason, Segways might be on their way out as Toyota introduced the new Winglet. Like the Segway, the Winglet has two wheels along with internal sensors in order to monitor the user’s position and then make adjustments to ensure stability.

I’m not certain if you can tell by the picture, but no handlebars are required for this two-wheeled transport. The user sits on that one raised section, and goes forward, backward, and turn simply by shifting their (ahem) butt around.
