BBM Music application launches today, brings you 50 free songs
BlackBerry owners have waited long enough. Today, RIM is going to put the BBM Music application inside BlackBerry App World as a free download. BBM Music is tied in with an existing network of BBM users. The benefit of this service is directly related to how BlackBerry users have friends that are also using BBM Music. Everyone will get 50 free songs to start and can potentially earn more songs as their BBM Music community expands.
Turntable.fm arrives in the Apple App Store
As promised last week, the Turntable.fm application for iOS is now available to download. The app itself is free, but you still have to be granted access to Turntable.fm through a friend on Facebook. Basically if you have a Facebook friend that used Turntable.fm, you’re in.
Turntable.fm is coming to the iPhone
Turntable.fm soared in popularity over the summer. Part of its success was fueled by its invitation-only requirement which only made people salivate over it even more. Turntable.fm also did a great job of socializing music discovery and even adding a bit of a gaming element into it. However, the buzz around Turntable.fm has died down. Before it gets too overshadowed by the likes of Spotify, Turntable.fm is going to release an iPhone application.
MySpace rebirth will focus on music
The once mighty social network MySpace has fallen very far from grace. The site was sold to Specific Media in June for $35 million which is much less than what former parent company News Corp. paid for it. One of the most shocking aspects of the MySpace sale is that Justin Timberlake is on board as the creative director. His presence will help reform MySpace into a lucrative music destination.
Chances are you aren’t paying for Spotify
Spotify was all the rage when it was released in the United States in July. Getting a Spotify invite was the biggest thing since Google+ invites came on the scene. Spotify is doing well for itself for the short period of time it has been available. However, the vast majority of Spotify’s users aren’t paying for it.
Amazon lowers price of new songs to $0.69
Amazon has made a very competitive move by dropping the price of popular singles. Right now, some of the top singles in Amazon’s MP3 store are only $0.69. The selection of songs include “S&M” by Rihanna, “Judas” by Lady Gaga and “I Need a Doctor” by Dr. Dre. If you were to purchase these songs from iTunes, they would cost $1.29 each. That’s almost two singles for the price of one by comparison.

Older phones will be able to download ringtones and ringback tones in the application through Sprint Mobile Web.
Crisis averted: music royalties stay the same!
A few days ago, our friends over at Appletell reported on a possible increase in royalty rates that could spell out a problem for iTunes, and possibly other digital music stores. A meeting took place on Thursday, and royalties were set on digital downloads and ringtones for the first time ever. The good news for those who buy songs and albums online: prices probably won’t be going up any time soon, at least not because of this. The Copyright Royalty Board set the royalty rate for songs on albums and songs downloaded online at 9.1 cents, or the same rate it was. This rate will remain into effect into 2012.
The interesting rates announced were actually those of master tones. That rate is a comparatively astounding 24 cents. Yeah, you read that right, 24 cents. More after the break.
Amazon’s MP3 store available on the Android G1
Because there isn’t quite enough hoopla today surrounding the news of the Android G1…Amazon comes out and adds their version of the cherry on the cupcake. They confirmed today that a music store for Android-based cellphones does indeed exist, and it comes pre-loaded on the G1. (yes, Virginia..there is a Santa Claus). With it, users more »
